Brewers 60-day DL assignments on the AZL roster, which again is for guys that most likely won’t play this year:

LHP Luis Cordero

RHP Yosmer Leal

RHP Matt Smith

RHP Andrew Vernon

Yosmer Leal has not pitched since 2014 (!).

Additionally, INF Luis Manon, who played in the DSL last season, has been placed on the AZL's 7-day DL.

With the activation of Jorge Lopez in Colorado Springs, Jon Perrin has been transferred to Biloxi. He fills the roster spot vacated by Mitch Ghelfi.

However, Biloxi only has one catcher on their active roster right now (Tyler Heineman) so there's likely to be another move to rectify that before the team resumes play post-All Star break on Thursday.

Additionally, Tim Dillard and Paolo Espino were activated from the DL prior to last night's game for Colorado Springs. Not sure what the corresponding moves were to clear space for those guys were yet.

So actually Lopez basically swapped spots with Freddy Peralta on the AAA roster, so one of the two moves to clear space for Espino and Dillard was the Perrin transfer to Biloxi. The other spot was cleared by placing INF Shane Opitz on the 7-day DL.

Colorado Springs is currently carrying 14 pitchers and 3 catchers.

McInerney hitting .230 and Hairston hitting .218. (McInerney with 10 dingers though)

Strange call-ups, must be out of necessity.

The Brewers have added three more Latin players to their DSL roster, though all three have been placed on the restricted list as they wait to be activated:

RHP Deybi Arias, born 5/27/01;

OF Starling Javier, born 12/17/00; and,

RHP Wellington Nunez, born 10/17/99.

We'll link to their milb.com pages once they're up.

Nunez is listed at 6'2", 171, and is a Dominican native. The 18-year-old should make his debut any day now, as he's been assigned to the DSL Brewers.

No formal word yet on the others in terms of assignment or activation.

June 21st update:

17-year-old OF Starling Javier is a Dominican native listed at a nice 6'2", 172 - he's the rare position player RH bat and LH arm. He's been assigned to the DSL Brewers non co-op squad.

I'm guessing the McInerney move was to fill the somewhat unexpected release of Ronnie Gideon. I feel like they gave up on him too soon.

Agree on Gideon, and feel the same way about Ghelfi...

It's possible they asked for their release. Ghelfi had only played in 21 games this year, and I wasn't aware of any injury holding him back; might have felt like he wasn't getting an opportunity. Maybe one or both felt it was time to move on from pro ball; as we know, they don't make much money at that level and perhaps it was time to make a better living. We'll see if they show up in Indy ball; if not, then they may have felt like it was time to move on, not the Brewers.
