Players opening the Dominican Summer League on the disabled list --

19-year-old 3rd year middle infielder Luis Manon

***

20-year-old LHP Davison Gonzalez, entering his 2nd pro season; the Venezuelan debuted last August as one of the older signees from the July 2nd international draft class

***

21-year-old RHP Victor Vasquez goes on the 60-day DL, not a good sign for making an appearance this year. The 6'4" Dominican native walked 26 in 28.1 2017 innings in his debut year, but managed a 2.86 ERA.

***

Similarly to the 60-day DL, RHP Nestor Batista, another tall (6'5") Dominican, who made nine relief appearances in his debut 2017 season, but last pitched on July 13th.

OF Carlos Belonis has been released from the Mudcats' roster.

Belonis was a major investment for the Brewers at the time, a $550,000 signing bonus. Lost nearly all of his 2nd pro season in 2013 to a broken thumb. Never clicked (career .636 OPS as a corner OF), was going to be a minor league FA this fall.

Brewers catching prospect Jacob Nottingham has been activated from the Triple-A DL after missing about three weeks with a rib-cage injury. Another catcher, Jett Bandy, is also active for the @skysox tonight after being outrighted on Friday.

To make room for Jacob Nottingham and Jett Bandy at AAA, catcher Dustin Houle was placed on the Sky Sox DL retroactive to June 2nd and INF Gabriel Noriega was placed on the same 7-day DL retroactive to June 4th.

Seems like phantom moves to maintain roster depth, but we probably should not assume in the possibility of legitimate injuries.

Catcher Nathan Rodriguez was placed on the Carolina 7-day DL retroactive to June 2nd to help make room for the newest Mudcats.

Keep in mind that Helena and Maryvale roster limits are 35 non-disabled list players, and with the rookie leagues about to get underway with a bunch of new draftees, the Brewers will have to play games with the various DL's rather than the taxi squad paper rosters of April and May.

That being said, we are not sure of Rodriguez' actual injury (or not) status at this time.

Paolo Espino and Charlie Meyer have been moved from Helena's roster to Colorado Springs' DL. Like Jim mentioned, the Brewers have reached the time of year where they can't use the rookie ball rosters to stash players as much. Don't know if either Espino or Meyer are actually injured, probably not, but we'll pass on info if we find out something.

The Sky Sox' active roster currently features 14 pitchers and 3 catchers, which is... interesting.

OF Johnny Davis hit a big triple in his debut for the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association.

Davis has since found work in the Mexican League with Dos Laredos, and so for the moment, his stateside independent league work is done.

The Brewers have added three more Latin players to their DSL roster, though all three have been placed on the restricted list as they wait to be activated:

RHP Deybi Arias, born 5/27/01;

OF Starling Javier, born 12/17/00; and,

RHP Wellington Nunez, born 10/17/99.

We'll link to their milb.com pages once they're up.
