2018 Minor League Transaction Thread

Brewer Fanatic Staff

Two recent releases by the Brewers have already found work in the independent ranks.

OF Johnny Davis hit a big triple in his debut for the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association.

INF Javier Betancourt is indeed recovered from his unfortunate Venezuelan gunshot incident last fall, and has signed with the Sugar Land (TX) Skeeters of the Atlantic League.

A "skeeter" is how we all said mosquito as kids, that's their mascot, lovely.

RHP Trey Supak has been promoted to Biloxi. To backfill his rotation spot, RHP Phil Bickford has been transferred from Helena to Carolina to make his season debut.

This is an exciting development on both parts!

AUDIO via the Sky Sox Soundcloud: "Dan Karcher meets with Sky Sox manager Rick Sweet in the latest edition of Sweet Sixteen"

Kyle Wren day-to-day with a slight re-aggravation of the groin strain he had earlier this season, they may have to DL him partly because of the crowded roster; Jacob Nottingham (intercostal) getting closer, doing well.

Indeed, Wren lands on the Sky Sox 7-day DL, retroactive to 5/25.

Both OF Quintin Berry and RHP Radhames Liz were placed on the Helena paper roster.

As best as I can tell, no organization utilizes taxi squads quite to the extent the Brewers do.

Brewers announced the release of Biloxi RHP Angel Ventura.

Ventura is just 25 years old despite 2018 being his 8th pro season with Milwaukee. His first three seasons were in the rookie Dominican Summer League, and he re-signed with the Crew as a minor league free agent this past offseason.

It's been a struggle this season, as the linked stat page above shows.

Good luck to Angel in the future, time still on his side.

I'm a little surprised by this, I know he was struggling a bit this year and pitching exclusively out of the bullpen, but last year he was a solid starter in CS. I'm guessing something was wrong this year, maybe velocity down.

I was surprised Angel resigned with the Brewers this year. There were plenty of opportunities to get him to the majors last year and the Brewers never called him up. It seemed like he was never going to get that chance with them. Hopefully he catches on somewhere else and gets that chance.

Timber Rattlers moves on Tuesday --

First, I had posted this on Monday:

Wisconsin Top of the 4th

Pat McInerney walks.

Gilbert Lara flies out to center fielder Eduardo Diaz.

Zach Clark doubles (3) on a line drive to left fielder Ernie De La Trinidad. Pat McInerney to 3rd.

Brent Diaz strikes out swinging.

Devin Hairston walks.

Joantgel Segovia singles on a line drive to center fielder Eduardo Diaz. Pat McInerney scores. Zach Clark scores. Devin Hairston to 2nd.

Nick Roscetti flies out to center fielder Eduardo Diaz.

Kane County Bottom of the 4th

Defensive Substitution: Payton Henry replaces catcher Brent Diaz, batting 8th, playing catcher.

Diaz either tweaked something, or it's a classic case of the manager not being happy with the reaction to the at-bat.

Either way, they were probably hoping to give Payton Henry a full day off.

Turns out it was the former, as Diaz landed on the Wisconsin disabled list today.

RHP Gabe Friese was activated from the temporarily inactive list.

RF/DH Jay Feliciano was assigned to Helena.

INF Trever Morrison rejoined the Timber Rattlers from the Helena paper roster / taxi squad.

All their numbers available via the team stats page here.

It is, but Payton Henry earned his spot in Wisconsin this spring so their hand was a little forced. Feliciano's injury may have even been a little blessing in disguise in that he didn't have to get thrown to the wolves in the Carolina League early in the season.

Feliciano saw a good deal of outfield work this spring, which many including myself have assumed would be his long-term position so we'll see how much catcher he ends up playing with the Mudcats. McDowell has obviously been great behind the dish.

At AAA, OF Kyle Wren activated from the Sky Sox DL, catcher Charlie Meyer placed on the Maryvale paper roster, and as noted on the Major League Forum, catcher Jett Bandy cleared waivers and remains Brewers' property.
