2018 Minor League Transaction Thread

Any chance Peralta pitches for Wisconsin at all? I hear he will be with the team this weekend in South Bend.

I read that it's just a paper move to give him a rest before he starts game 3,4 or 5 after the break.

SS Antonio Pinero's season is over now that he's been placed on Helena's 60-day DL. I don't believe we ever heard what the injury is, but he last played on June 20th.

19-year-old SS Luis Avila began the year with the DSL team, was promoted to the AZL on June 24th, and now has been promoted again to Helena.

Joining Avila in Helena is C Mike Alescio. He was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Seton Hall on 6/29 and had played 3 games in the AZL before being moved up to Helena.

The Helena roster currently stands at 31, 4 under the league limit. The AZL roster stands at 33, with 2 under the limit but those spots will be filled pending the activations of 13th round RHP Reece Olson and 24th round RHP Wade Beasley.

RHP Dylan File was placed on the Timber Rattlers' DL on Sunday to make room for big leaguer Freddy Peralta, who was optioned to Wisconsin.

Hopefully just a way to rest File coming off his stellar eight-inning start on Saturday.

We’ve signed RHP Jeff Ames to a minor league contract and assigned him to Colorado Springs

http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=571440#/career/R/pitching/2018/ALL

Jeff Ames was drafted by the Rays 10 picks after they took Jake Hager in the 2011 draft. Hager was a 1st rounder, Ames a Comp-A rounder. Matt Arnold had a hand in bringing them together back in 2011, and now again in 2018.

Appears to be a hard throwing reliever. 27 years old. Great K numbers throughout his minor league career. Has battled wildness. Kind of that Turnbow/Axford/Kolb mold. Great guy to take a chance on.

Brewers signing RHP Yostin Villalobos, most likely for the next signing period. Here he is with Brewers scout Reinaldo Hidalgo.

Villalobos was born on 10/17/00 and was placed on the DSL's Restricted List. He is eligible to be activated this year.

Villalobos was transferred to the co-op squad and activated today.

AUDIO via the Sky Sox Soundcloud: The latest from Manager Rick Sweet

Do take in the entire podcast, but at the 04:25 minute mark, Voice of the Sky Sox Dan Karcher and Sweet go over two new signings by Milwaukee, corner IF/OF Richie Shaffer and former Brewers trade acquisition RF Rymer Liriano.

Sweet and Karcher do a nice job of noting Shaffer's 30 AAA International League HR's in 2017, as well as Liriano's lost 2016 season after a spring training beaning while with the Crew.

Both players are 27 years old, Shaffer the 25th overall pick of the rays in 2012, and Liriano a former Top 100 MLB prospect. Each has big league time, as you'll be able to review at their linked player pages above.

At Colorado Springs, RHP Tim Dillard and OF Quintin Berry were each placed on the 7-day DL in moves almost assuredly phantom in nature.

OF Rymer Liriano has been officially added to the roster, which sits at 25, but 14 pitchers and only 11 position players.

We're likely to see OF Brett Phillips returned to the club this weekend.

Others capable of playing outfield, but for the moment, Liriano, Tyrone Taylor, and Domingo Santana are the only true outfielders on the team.

FYI -- Biloxi currently with a similar 14-11 makeup.

As per Erik C. Anderson of the Helena Independent Record --

"Left-handed pitcher Michael Mediavilla was promoted from the Arizona League Brewers to Helena and is expected to arrive on Sunday."

The 2018 6'5", 225 34th round pick out of the University of Miami (23 years old next month) has excelled in Maryvale, this was an overdue bump.
