Knebel's hamstring injury

Madhawk23
OK - let's assume what we all are thinking, and that we find out tomorrow that he has a torn hamstring. What does the recovery look like for a severe injury like that? Have we seen the last of him this year if it's torn, or is it possible he'd be back sometime in the 2nd half of the season? And doctors in the forum?

Along with the length of time, here is another thought. Will he have to modify the last phase of his follow thru after he delivers a pitch. He has a real funky landing with his left leg that could be putting way too much strain on the back of his knee and hamstring. Again, physical therapists in the house?

Not a doctor but yeah it looked like a massive tear. It looked high enough that I think its muscle and not attachment point. The latter I believe is far worse so semi-promising. I'd be thrilled if he can pitch again this year. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's 3 months from rehabbing it... not rehab pitching, rehabbing the muscle, building back strength.

He's toast. We will be selling by 01 May.

They may be selling, but it has nothing to do with Knebel. They are so deep in the BP that losing Knebel isn't that big of a jolt.

If they're selling, it will be because they're scoring zero runs a game and getting a quality start is like finding a unicorn.

Well this is a bit of an over-reaction.

At least the injury is at a position of depth. Call up Hoover (I'd prefer Williams, but likely will be Hoover) move Jeffress to closer.

There is literally 155 games left.

Hoover needs a spot on the 40, Williams already has one. Unless they plan to place Knebel on the 60 day immediately they would need to free up a spot for Hoover on the 40 by other means.

Knebel to the 60 man is a no-brainer. If they want to wait a couple of days, they can bring up Lopez for a few days, like they did last season.

If the tear is high off the bone then it is surgery and done for year. If mid-substance (more muscle) then it can heal. Depending on grade of tear 4-12 weeks of healing time. Not necessarily a 60 day DL thing.

Knebel's on the 10 day until MRI and other test results come back confirming the severity of the injury - would be surprised if he doesn't immediately go to the 60-day DL following word of results later today/tomorrow. Even if it's just a significant pull, it'll take at least a month to recover and another month's throwing program to get back into game shape.

This was my thought. I don't see this injury not being a huge recovery time. Then again maybe that is my over-reaction.. But didn't look good.

I did overlook the 40-man though. Hope it plays in Williams favor.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I'm definitely not a pro athlete but I hurt my hammy a couple of summers ago and it still isn't the same two years later. Still tightens up more than it ever did before and hurts from time to time. Hammies always seem like a reoccurring injury for some reason.

According to McCalvy tweet, CK says he is hoping 4 to 6 weeks. Sounds like MRI revealed less damage than initially thought, though I think a lot of folks initially thought season ender, so that is a totally relative indicator of severity.

Still, good news. CK looking at a mid-June return at latest and barring setbacks. Not a world-ender, and maybe the saved innings help late in the year. I hope they do, and the Crew manages to stay in contention.

Well, if you look at it that way, not only are the Brewers picking up a top starter mid-season (Nelson), they are grabbing a top-flight closer (Knebel) as well. That's a fun way of looking at it. If the current staff can keep the team afloat, that is a lot of nice reinforcements.
