Just because there wasn’t a trade in the off-season doesn’t mean it won’t happen. And obviously these deals people speak of weren’t quality ones or they would’ve happened. We try to play armchair GM about crap we have no idea about. Done doing that. I’ll enjoy the extra offense while we have it.

Heck we speculate about these awesome deals even those multiple reports said other Gms don’t value Santana. Arm chair GMs. I tell ya.

Wouldn't logic dictate, then, that you, too, are playing armchair GM by assuming there wasn't a palatable trade for a starting pitcher on the table for Santana? For all we know, there could have been a very nice starting pitcher on the table, but Stearns is severely overvaluing Santana. If that's the case, that's on Stearns.

Don't be condescending. Just because I have a more critical view of how Stearns has built this team, doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid than yours.

It’s not condescending. Sorry if it came off that way but it’s not about my opinion or yours about how Stearns built this team that we are talking about even. You’re (and a lot of others) complaining about not making a trade that none of us even have the slightest clue about. It’s playing make believe by assuming Stearns could’ve just parlayed Santana into prospects of a rotation piece considering there went a single report that this would occur. Just speculation by people. Heck, there was more reporting on how Santana lacked trade value than there was of him being a piece we could move for something.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Big spot, top of the order with 2 on...

Testing your two run theory right now.

Well, got one. Can't blame Braun, he smoked it, just right at him.

Hit it hard but I’d rather be looks for a pitch up to smash than swing at low and inside early in the count.

Thought Santana might stay in for Braun there.

Chase is all over, but the zone does appear to be in the Cards favor thus far. Flaherty is all around the zone though, so I'm sure that helps.

I'm sure some are going to tire of the constant calls for electronic balls and strikes, but I'll probably continue to do so until it inevitably happens.

This one is a complete sucker for Molina's outside corner frame jobs to righties.

I just think it's funny how the starting pitching narrative has already changed from "it'll be good enough" to "we couldn't have improved it anyway".

Who said we couldn’t have improved it? I surely didn’t. Saying that there wasn’t a deal out there for Santana isn’t nearly the same thing as what you’re trying to imply.

Plenty of other ways the pitching staff could have been improved on without dealing Santana. Stearns didn’t see the need to do it and so now we will see how right he is.

Positive note tonight; Barnes and Jeffress continue to pitch well. Good to see. What I hate seeing is Mike Maddux in a Cardinals uniform. Ugly.

You're attitude on FA signings wasn't any different. You have spent plenty of time telling me how much better this rotation was going to be over what I thought it was going to be. Even so, I highly doubt they couldn't have leveraged Santana as part of a deal to get what they needed.

What the hell just happened? Gameday says Yadier Molina steals 2nd base.

Enormous jump on Albers. He was halfway to 2nd when Pina caught the ball. Still almost got him. Throw was high. Good slide by Molina too.

Also Villar just flat out missed the tag.

Throw wasn't perfect but it was good enough to get him.

Top to bottom this has to be one of the softest throwing staffs in the league.

Yeah, other than Hader, Knebel and Barnes, not a lot of heat. Of the starters, Woodruff is the only one that can be considered above average velocity-wise. They could really use a Taylor Williams injection in the pen, and Nelson to return as soon as his DL stint is up.
