Interesting... So looks like Santana will be the odd man out vs RHP.

Wouldn’t make too many assumptions yet.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Starting that lineup and having the roster flexibility to bring either Santana or Aguilar in to face a lefty specialist late in a game is fantastic...early season opponents of the Brewers have gotta be praying for the day to come when Milwaukee needs more arms and has to make a roster move or two to weaken their bench.

I don't think Santana sits every game there's a righty starter just based on today's lineup - it's the home opener so Braun's in the starting lineup and he had Saturday's game off, simple as that.

Agreed. I think it will be rotated between guys to give days off. I'd bet Braun winds up sitting the most against RH starters.

I think Fear The Chorizo might be right about why Braun is starting this time.

Plus, Santana hit RHP really well last season, he doesn't look to have a large platoon split.

Some info on Mikolas, from the ever-reliable FanGraphs --

For three years, but last year in particular, Mikolas has succeeded through strikes and ground balls. He’s wound up with good strikeout rates, too, but not so much because of true swing-and-miss stuff. He’s gotten strikeouts by getting ahead and staying ahead. By winning these sweepstakes, the Cardinals are expressing the most faith in Mikolas’ ability to keep hitting his spots in the majors. He blends a low-90s fastball with a big curve and a sharp slider, and that slider, last season, was one of the most effective secondary pitches in the NPB. Mikolas additionally led the league in innings pitched one year after missing time with shoulder discomfort. Being just 29, he should be around the prime of his career.

It is going to interesting to see how we stack up against the Cards.
Ditto! St. Louis is pissed off not making the post season 2 straight years, and it's been a while for the Brewers.

Your lineup looks fairly daunting; lots of tough outs. We're a little better too (at least on paper) And kudo's to the Pirates for coming out of the blocks strong. Anyway in the world they're for real?

Yeah, not sure you can draw any conclusions yet. They sat Braun vs the first RHP, Santana vs the second RHP, and with four more RHPs coming up, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cain sit against one of them as well. We're getting into some iffy defense territory at that point with a Braun-Yelich-Santana outfield, but Cain does have the worst RHP splits of the three (.745 OPS in '16-17 vs. Braun's .843 and Santana's .826). It'll be interesting to see how many starts each guy gets during this 6-game stretch of righties.

Cut Cain. Cut Yelich :)

Made it look easy. It’s not easy. At all. Wow.

Judging from your avatar pic, this I presume is a topic you take seriously. I agree on his stache game, it looks very strong.
