We act as if we are the only team with possible holes on our team. Every team battles it somewhere. Second base MIGHT be that place by July but it might not be as well. Sometimes you have to let players prove one way or another. They have sunk about $7-8 million in the second base position already with Villar-Perez-Sogard so it probably was in Stearns best interest to let the dust settle there before making a move.

You may be correct and that definitely seems to be what they’re doing, but it’s also possible that 2017 and the beginning of 2018 have already settled that

Well, so far Villar is performing offensively as well as Harrison and better than Scooter and Walker (he's been bad). So we probably can let the dust settle a bit on this.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

On the current roster he definitely should be (although CC cannot resist your playing Sogard and Perez somewhere) but a 79 OPS+ with his defense is not playing well

It is 85 and should be even higher with the walk he should've earned yesterday.

You are correct since his day yesterday helped it. But 85 is still plenty below average

Is there anyone in an entire system or roster that you could honestly look someone in the eyes and say they can do better? No...not even close. So this conversation is pretty pointless. He is by far the best option we have on this roster. His worst is probably better than Sogard/Perez and has way more potential to be better. We don't freak out about how other players are starting off slow...Villar could easily warm up with the weather. He has way more power than he has shown so far.

Not every player is going to be above average...even average. Villar hasn't even been our worst positional player so far. An 85+ OPS is not that bad. With his defensive downside that probably just make him a guy. That isn't a big deal if the guys who are suppose to be above average with the bat are actually doing so.

If you think it’s pointless feel free to maybe....not join in then.

But an OPS+ of 85 is acceptable you’re right, but not with bad defense also. Be good at something at least. If you’re literally not good at anything, then the team should look sometime to try something different

Holding off with a lot of this stuff until we get into the late parts of June, beginning of July. Doesn't seem like many of these deals ever happen before mid-July anyways.

Villar's BABIP is an unsustainable .387. He's not walking anywhere near as often as in 2016, and he's still striking out once every 3 ABs while his slugging is down below where it was last year and way way off 2016.

The next month will tell us a lot about what we may or may not need to do with our second base position. Probably by mid-June, there will need to be a decision made based on the data collected over this year and the previous two about whether or not having Villar in our lineup is the right move. Another factor will be where this team is in the standings. Right now, it would seem like we'll be in a spot to make moves for this year but we are exciting our "easy" part of the schedule so we will have to see what this team looks like against some other opponents before making that decision.
