Definitely not Uecker's call of that homer

Wow :embarrassed

I’ll always love Ueck, but...yikes.

MLB is usually great at giving both TV and radio calls on huge plays like that, and was wondering why they didn’t have Uecker’s call. Now I know.

Anderson’s call was tremendous. He is a great announcer and we are very lucky that he has made the Brewers broadcasting booth his home.

Ueck has been the best for a very long time now but I think the color analyst job would be a better fit now. He could tell us stories too. But I doubt he would agree. Hopefully he won't make anymore calls like this one

Oh come on folks, don't act like you haven't absolutely whiffed on something obvious. If he's doing it on a daily basis then yeah the "yikes" is warranted, but the guy has about 50 years worth of calls. Cut the poor man a little slack.

My dogs name is Uecker so let’s not trade him away please.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

He does do it on a near daily basis, which is why it's so painful. Nobody is saying to get rid of him, and it's not as bad as when Harry Caray wasn't even cognizant of the fact he was at a baseball game, or referring to Ryne Sandberg as Ron Santo, but he's definitely missing a lot of the action, and leaving radio listeners in the dark a fair amount of the time.

I mean Ueck is an old dude. It happens. It sucks. Nobody is saying put him out to pasture, but it would probably suit him better to be a color guy at this stage. He'd still get to wax nostalgic, tell all his old stories, drop baseball anecdotes into the flow of the game broadcast and etc, etc, etc, but someone else who's more into the actual current game that's taking place today can give us the minute to minute pitch-by-pitch rundown.

Much Ado about nothing. The way Braun reacted initially it could have easily appeared to be K.

I listen to Uke every night because I don't have cable. I stream and play the radio audio, he's fine. He was actually never very good at any age at game updates as he never tells the score or situation. But that's not why he is what he is, he's a storyteller and he's still sharp as ever.

I’m in the minority but I think Uecker has been awful for years and its past time for him to hang it up. I’ve been a fan since the 70’s and I used to love him but he’s been bad for years and I can’t even listen to the game when he’s calling it.

I have never mistaken a dramatic, no doubt homer, for strike 3.

My first thought watching the highlight this morning not knowing the outcome was that Braun must have gotten under it just enough and knew it because his body language was very tense, yet immediate. Ueck used to do games with Costas, so I'd like to think he could adapt and his slips are more noticeable. I'll listen regardless when I get the chance, but it wouldn't hurt to switch formats.

He gets worse every year. Some standard details like the score, or whos batting, or where the ball is hit would be nice.

I wish he'd go out like Vincent Scully did. He knew it was time,we knew it was time. Would be nice if Robert would do the same

I think he's trying to hold out for the day he (rightfully) gets to finally see the Brewers back in the World Series. Needs to happen in the next year or two though......

My opinion on Uke is that's he has always been a terrible play by play guy. Awful. Back in the pre cell phone days I could flip him on and wait 30 minutes for the score. He's a comedian who likes baseball and has amazing stories to tell. I only listen for the stories. Today it's irrelevant because my phone can tell me the rest.

Side note: I listen at home, not while driving.

Exactly. If you want to listen to a baseball game and know what's going on, Uecker isn't your guy. If you want to hear the same "I was bad at baseball" stories over and over again, then you love him.

Wow. Brewer fans really should be cutting Bob Uecker some slack.

The guys is 83 years old.

He's a National Treasure and Milwaukee is lucky to have him.

Brewer baseball will never be the same once he is gone. Period.

Please enjoy him every second while you can.

80% of what's been said about Ueck in this thread is nonsense. Way to nitpick a 80+ year old man who's still far more enjoyable to listen to than 90% of the rest of the league's radio guys.

Yeah, he never tells you the score mid- inning and he has trouble seeing things clearly at times. But I think he's earned the right to call games as long as he'd like.

100% agree. The nitpickers need to be quiet. The man is a national treasure, and the team is lucky to have him.

So because he was good at his job at one time he should be given slack because he's bad now? I guess we might as well bring back Lohse and Wolf to round out our rotation.
