I'm honestly not particularly worried about losing Knebel for an extended period.

It definitely makes our bullpen worse in the short term but I'm more than OK doing closer by committee with Jeffress/Albers/Hader/Barnes based on situations, with Williams hopefully getting called up and being trusted later and later in games as he goes.

Knowing Stearns/Counsell, they'll use this as an opportunity rather than a setback.

Hell, even Drake is pitching pretty well thus far, and Jennings has mostly looked pretty great too for a 6th guy/LOOGY. I'm just not all that worried about the bullpen right now.

Yes, if one position could take a hit like that and survive for the time being it is the bull pen. :ohwell

Hader being able to pitch 2-3 innings of great baseball after our rotation fails to do their job is great! Hopefully Houser can do same as well! We need plenty of guys in order to piggy back 5 starters every 5 days

He can hit too! :)

I am beginning to get very excited about a future rotation of:

1. Nelson

2. Anderson

3. Davies

4. Burnes

5. Peralta

I mean this could be next years beginning of the year rotation.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It could be or we could package Woodruff Ortiz+ for an upper level arm (solid 2 type) and put Peralta as the long man just for giggles.

Scary part is behind that Ponce Brown Kodi Jankins Herrera are all taking the steps you want to see and theres a lot of raw talent behind that group.

2019-2020 we'll have a lot of talented arms.

Knebel Albers Hader Barnes Williams Jennings Jeffress Peralta still leaves Houser Suter Lopez looking in.

Yes my eyes are glued to the farm right now... Erceg is feasting and Stokes, Grisham are looking good early.

5-5 with a -15 run differential. Given the injuries and the tough early schedule, this team really just need to hang around until mid-June. I like the cliche about not being able to win a pennant in April but definitely being able to lose it. This team is nowhere near losing it, even with another bad week.

Of course, I see the offense getting it going and the Crew at least splitting the road trip. Hope for more!

14 games in, the Cubs rotation is good and a healthy Rizzo makes their lineup tough. But I don't see an NL Central roster that terrifies me. Every team has pretty big flaws if you ask me. Hang around, get healthy, and the division is there.

Would help if Darvish, Q, and Lester make the Cubs rotation a money pit. Not out of the question.

What has been good about the Cubs rotation? One guy with an era under 4.4 and that is hendriks. Quintana and Darvish both have struggled. No starter has gone more than 6 innings. Their lineup is really good but their rotation has not started well.

Agreed completely. I think the April results are misleading, but I hope not.

I think there are reasons to think their rotation won't be as good as some thought. If it produces anywhere close to this throughout the year the Brewers are in good shape. No bullpen can to 3 plus every night without falling apart

Yeah Cubs seems to be doing what they did to start last year. Hopefully some of it is sustainable but it doesn’t seem like any of their pitchers are hurt or whatever (their velo and stuff is in line with career norms) but Rizzo is banged up and hopefully the pitchers “never get going.” I still don’t see much to see that not happening but you never know. Also Lester, Darvish and Quintana’s only good starts have been vs us so far so yeah.

Dodgers about to fall 6 games back in the division I know it’s early but I think they might be in real trouble. Of last years division winners I think the Nats and Cubs are going to be fine and still should be the favorites to win the East and Central but idk if I’d give the benefit of the doubt to the Dodgers right now, there’s some real concerns there.

Thames has a 140 wRC+, and .192 BABIP.

Dude's been tearing the cover off the ball, getting crazy unlucky, and still 40% better than your average hitter.

His walk rate is a little down from last year but still 11.8% which is pretty high. He's also 2-for-6 with 2 BBs and only 1 K against lefties so far this year.

Can't wait to him demolish the Reds the next two games.

If Thames stays healthy, I think he's going to have a monster season.

well guys, virtually all of our starting position players have regressed at the plate except for yelich thames and aguilar (limited AB) so far and we are still 9-9... i see great things for us if the heavy hitters track anywhere near last years numbers...i think thames will hit his dingers but i see some long slumps from him too.if he DOES hit .280 or so look out. this platoon is already working well even with braun starting so slow. aguilar was at .391 the last time i looked but zero homers and zero rbis. we have to remember thames only hit .180 with RISP last year so we need that to reverse this year too
