Alex Cobb (Part 2)

Down Market Predictions...

Jake Arrieta 4 years/96M= $24M per

Alex Cobb 3 years/$39M= $13M per

Let's go Brew Crew, can't you afford them BOTH????

Dreamy Rotation:

Jake Arrieta

Chase Anderson

Alex Cobb

Zach Davies

Jhoulys Chacin

Chacin is really only a #5 starter at best on a playoff caliber team and Jimmy Nelson's return would bump him to a #6 starter/depth.

That rotation with our offense and Knebel/Hader in the back of the pen and we can give Cubs a run for their money!

Not gonna happen but me likey.

Kyle Davies is the mystery man of this rotation, who knows what were gonna get out of him?

Kyle Davies is a mystery man for the Brewers that much. I agree there.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I tried to lay it on thick but isn’t Zach our most consistent stat line over the past couple of seasons?

It's sarcasm on top of his sarcasm. So double sarcasm. The cancel each other out. (My apologies to those who don't see that commercial 50 times a day.)

Well played if that was the case. The original poster might've gotten us all and we didn't even realize it

I’m hoping the holdouts continue. I have March 9 on our work bet calendar.

I've been saying for a while I wouldn't be surprised if some of these guys go late into April. It's a risk for both the players and the teams, and nobody wants to blink first apparently. In the meantime, I expect these transaction/rumor threads to reach epic levels- especially if even one reporter mentions Braun's name again ; )

I've been saying for a while I wouldn't be surprised if some of these guys go late into April.

If they go into late April, there's a good chance they go into June (after the draft) as that's when a player is no longer tied to draft pick compensation. And Cobb, Lynn and Arrietta - along with Moustakas - all cost the team that signs them a draft pick.

At least that's been the rule in the past. I don't think it has changed.

But if a guy is willing to wait a month into the season to sign, he might wait another month - removing the draft pick compensation tied around his neck.

So Twins GM says they have their roster and we believe it completely. Stearns says the exact same thing and it's just double talk? Cobb would fit the bill but I just don't see it happening.

You dont see us adding Cobb?

I have no reason to believe we are in any better position to sign Cobb than any other team. We may sign him but it is just as likely another team signs him. There has never been any credible indication that we were all that heavily involved on him.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

A take it or leave it deadline only works if a player is really interested in signing with you. I'm guessing the issue is they are not, otherwise a deal would probably have been worked out by now. Living here in Cub country, talk is Cobb really wants to pitch for Chicago, as he is familiar with their manager and pitching coach. If Cobb settles for a below market deal, it will probably be with the Cubs. Arrieta, who knows, but it doesn't seem like he's jumping up and down and waving at the Crew, saying pick me.

I cannot see Brewers signing any free agent pitcher unless there are a bunch of injuries during spring training or a bunch of pitchers pitch bad during spring training. Just doesn’t make a lot of sense or fit the Stearns acquisition model during his tenure.

Why would the Cubs want Cobb? Their rotation looks pretty set to me.

Yeah unless there’s a drastic injury (they still would probably just put Montgomery in the rotation or sign a lesser FA like Hellickson or whatever) or decided to go a 6-man rotation I don’t get why the Cubs would be in at all at this point. Lester/Hendricks/Darvish/Quintana/Chatwood is set and all those guys are better than Cobb except maybe Chatwood but if he plays up to his road/outside of Coors splits at worst he’s even value. Plus they have Montgomery and some AAAA guys like Tseng/Butler/Mills/Alzolay/that dude with the weird Z last name and Drew Smyly rehabbing for SP depth. They are pretty set.

I have no Idea if the Cubs are interested still in Cobb. I just know that the Cub fans working for me here really think the Cubs are interested in Cobb if he's willing to settle for a 2-3 yr deal. you can never have enough pitching, I guess.
