Alex Cobb (Part 2)

I will be more active. I have been on this board for a long time.

Just not much of a poster especially on injuries simply because of misinformation from the press or because I know stuff that I cant say due to where I trained and knowing the Brewers doctors.

I am not affiliated with then or the Brewers at all now, but am local.

Excellent -- looking forward to reading and learning more.

When pitchers typically have labral issues it usually refers to the SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior Posterior). One of the biceps attachments is to this part of the labrum. During throwing mechanics the biceps is very important in the deceleration phase of a pitch. (https://www.physio-pedia.com/Throwing_Biomechanics) Link is a very good explanation. When the biceps is injured, SLAP tear occurs or Rotator Cuff torn it is very difficult to fully recover and be an elite thrower again. There are a lot reasons why and it is very complex. We probably are not good yet perfecting the repair for throwers.

Nelson's injury did not involve that area according to reports. His was a bankart tear which is the anterior inferior labrum. This is injured during a shoulder dislocation. This can be repaired and since no major muscle attaches here it should (in theory) not effect his throwing mechanics in the same way. I predicted June as a good timeline for his return and it sounds like that is the Brewer's goal as well. The biggest concern with this surgery is that his shoulder was not tightened up too much with the repair. As long as he regains his full range of motion and full rotator cuff strength, he should be able to return. Hopefully it will be to his elite level he had last year. It would be a huge boost to team in June/July.

and this is why I still come here, posts like this are incredible. Thank you for sharing!

When I first came to this board years ago I was blown away at the wit and knowledge of the fans. The game day chat room was HYSTERICAL and I was amazed at the knowledge and passion of 'my people' (long time, starved, hurt Brewers fans). This board, in my opinion, has shifted a bit since then .. though no one's fault in particular. More bickering, more guys flexing their knowledge to show others up, etc...

But yes, the 'old board' shines through now and again and I don't think I'll ever be able to go away because of it.

Stick around Benji!

FWIW, Mlbtraderumors suggests his best offer is 3/42 which is about where he should be.

I think that was the supposed lowball offer the Cubs threw at him back in December. As it turns out, maybe it wasn't real lowball. I think he'll likely sign a bigger deal for more years, though.

I'm just trying to figure out why these guys are still sitting out on the market when it was supposedly Darvish holding things up.

HH still has him likely signing with the Brewers on Monday, correct?

No, it went down to 20% before he bailed out.

This seems like a perfect spot for a Naked Gun quote...

Twins just signed Logan Morrison, gotta imagine that takes them out of the running for Cobb.

That puts them around 110 million. If they add Cobb or Lynn it would be around 125. I don't see them doing that. Phils, Nats, Brewers, & maybe Cards are the ones that might spend money on SP.

Does Logan Morrison pitch?

Again read what NOMAAM posted.

Does he have some inside knowledge of what the Twins are doing? I know you have Odorrizi still trying to get Cobb to Minnesota.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
