Alex Cobb (Part 2)

I just know that if I was David Stearns and someone was leaking inside info out that was getting put on the Internet, I'd be looking to fire that person ASAP. If the leaks/inside info is real, while it is interesting it hurts the Brewers having it out there.

Having said that,I hope the Brewers sign Cobb. He is still a very very good pitcher

Well, the good news is - we should know the legitimacy of HH19 and his source by Monday it seems. I want to believe the guy...I really do. But, I do have some serious doubts about why his source would continue to give him all of this information that he then takes directly to the message boards and twitter. Doesn't quite add up in my head. But again - I hope he's legit, and we get some Cobb news by Monday.

I have never believed a word this guy says. The stuff he "predicts" is pretty logical and his other stuff is just pure speculation. I could say anything and it would be believable because Stearns has already said he casts a wide net.

He broke Lucroy? Cleveland was so desperate for a catcher last year anyone could have called that. Their catchers hit a combined .168 up until the trade.

He broke Yelich? They were publicly shedding payroll and it was reported that Milwaukee was talking to Miami. The only logical option was Yelich.

I can also guarantee you that the only people that are aware of the level of detail he is supposedly providing are Stearns and Matt Arnold. An executive assistant to Stearns may know who they are calling but would have no idea what is being said.

The only thing this guy is providing is entertainment so we can dream and speculate about possible trades and signings, which is fine, especially for the "Transaction Rumors/Proposals" board on here but the fact that so many people are taking this persons word as gospel is ridiculous.

I will also give an 80% chance that Cobb does not sign with the Brewers because I do not think the Brewers view him as much better than Woodruff, Guerra, and possibly Burnes midway through the season and they definitely do not want to lose another draft pick. The only way I see him signing is a 2 year deal for around 40 million so they can stay under the $50 million threshold in order to retain their draft pick.

Go Brewers!

You forgot post #162 under the Darvish transaction Rumors.

Darvish wanted a big market and LA couldn't shed payroll and wanted to be under the luxury tax...Chicago. Pretty obvious.

I agree with your sentiment but just let the guy post what he needs to post.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I would love for us to stay away from whether HH19 is legit or not but it probably isn't possible. Some will never give the credit, others will take his word as gospel. Striking a middle ground on his source is probably the best course of action as it has provided lots of discussions this offseason and some pretty fun speculation about the Brewers plans. HH19 says 80% probability that Cobb is a Brewer by Monday, that is some fun stuff to think about as long as it is not some ridiculous contract.

1. Anderson

2. Cobb

3. Davies

4. Chacin

5. Woodruff

with Nelson rejuvenated(hopefully) come June and possibly adding a starter(Stroman, Paxton, etc..) at the midway point to make the playoff push.

This looks like a good course of action for the Brewers to be taking.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That's fine but I think it's a little ridiculous people are getting so worked up about his posts. But, to each their own.

Back to the actual free agents, I am guessing that we will not go long term with any of them. We already lost our third highest pick by signing Cain and I don't think Stearns likes the idea of giving up another top pick. If we do sign Arrieta or Cobb, I'm guessing it would be 2 yrs/ <$50 million. Darvish didn't require a draft pick forfeiture so I believe we did offer a bigger deal for him. For a small market team like the Brewers that draft pick should be viewed as a trade chip. We will never be in the business of signing mega deals.

The FA pitching market next year is very weak so we definitely won't be signing anyone next year. So if something happens it will be:

A) Signing Cobb or Arrieta on a short-term high AAV deal (under $50 million)

B) Not signing either and using those picks either at the deadline or next year when the trade market opens back up.

Now HH19 is saying that it is down to 20% by Monday, and most likely some time next week. Ugh, this is turning into a bit of a clown show at this point. Again - I hope the guy is right, but I think he just needs to stop throwing out percentages, because while some of his predictions have come right (whether he has a source or not), his percentages on when things will take place have typically been way off the mark.

HH just said we havent been in touch with Cobbs agent the last 2 days, now a 20% chance to sign by Monday.

More likely something gets done next week.

Stearns, please dont let Cobb slip away... We need him in our rotation!!

Now he says prepare for bad news. If Cobb signs elsewhere in the next 24 hours or the Brewers sign Arrieta to a 6 year deal in the next 24 hours, I'll consider that comment a good call.

I feel like HighHeat wouldn't consider Arrieta signing with the Brewers "bad news" even if it is a painfully long contract. I have to think it means Arrieta/Cobb are signing elsewhere - perhaps one with the Cards.

Agreed on Cards, it makes all the sense in the world for them to make a big move. I thought they'd be more inclined to target Holland though. I guess no reason they can't target 2 of the remaining big free agents.

Yea Im guessing Arrieta to the Cards is the bad news.

It better not be about Cobb... He needs to be in our rotation.

"Sources within the Milwaukee Brewers are now aware of this account and for the safety of my source, this account will be deleted later today. There will be no more info on http://BF.NET or any other media source going forward. This is my last post."

I mean, this is probably just for the best. This whole charade is a bit old. Cryptic teases are not the same as posting legitimate sourced news.

Or Cobb is signing elsewhere and he is getting a head of the news.

Lets go back to a functioning board without following our one untrue god.

Well the USA curling team beat Canada today for the second time in a few days to move to the gold medal game so I hope this "news" doesn't ruin that good mojo feeling I have today. :angry :tongue

Maybe that's the bad news?

Well, they’re only nuts if the information proves to be accurate. I don’t think it’s unfair to treat stuff like this from anyone with some skepticism, but as Reilly said, it’s probably not the place for that in this thread going forward.

I would think something has to happen soon. Spring Training for pitchers is pretty regimented in terms of getting stretched out, in shape, and on schedule to start the season. I know there is talk of a free agent spring training at one of the agent's complexes, but I can't see pitchers staying there too long. This staring contest has to end at some point.
