Re: Alex Cobb

I had no clue whether he actually knew anything or not, nor did I really care, but I stopped reading the rumor forum for most of January and February as I found him annoying and the amount of posts begging him for information even more so. Thankfully that crap is all over and we can get back to arguing about if Brian Anderson is a bad announcer and how pointless the RBI stat is.

**Really good life lesson here people.**

:rolleyes

Gotta love the people running to tell us they told everyone so. I guess it makes some feel good in their lives.

Actually, not really. Nor did my part you quoted have to do anything with that. I’m saying that because that is exactly how people like him get caught. Many people were highly skeptical and were sure something was off.

It’s a good life lesson to not do what HH19 did in any situation. Because it will catch up to you eventually.

100% agree on all of this post

I think there is a bigger issue here and that is the overall level of respect that people have for other people's opinions, whether they are right or wrong. Obviously lying about having insider information is closer to the wrong end of the spectrum, but that is only part of the issue. It's not about having the right to express skepticism, it's about how the skepticism was expressed. The issue was not with what HH was posting, it was the tone with which how people responded.

There is an old saying, "it's not what you say but how you say it". People are free to disagree with others' opinions, but please do so in a polite way. Think of it this way - before you respond to someone, ask yourself, would you want someone responding to you in that way to one of your opinions?

In other words, don't be an ass to other posters here. Challenge and criticize with tact. Take an extra minute and read through what you wrote and ask yourself if this is the proper tone and if there is any way to do so in a more respectful way.

Excellent post. I log on daily but this right here is why I don't bother posting much. This is also why Louis is one of my favorite reads. Always very well thought out posts.

I'm with TPlush, luke, and Trwi7 on this one. I don't believe that what you're describing ever really happened -- or certainly not moreso than any other poster has experienced. If there was ever really an incident, I missed it. Other than that, I saw nothing other than people scared that others would scare off the "source" if they didn't walk on eggshells with him.

I've certainly experienced (and unfortunately probably been guilty of) worse than anything HH was subjected to. That doesn't make it ok, and I totally get that conduct is a big part of what makes this board what it is. That said, there's expecting courtesy and respect and there's just being totally thin-skinned. When we get to the point where questioning and disagreeing is not even okay anymore I think we've crossed that line.

Ha, this is great. Pretty much how I felt as well. I don't ever really remember seeing anyone respond in a rude manner to him. He pretty much gave himself away when he supposedly left and claimed to be insulted but then went on twitter.. and then never really left. Somebody with a real source wouldn't go on twitter spewing stuff, imo.

Anyway, maybe the guy will grow up and come back and have something relevant to add. I don't have any input on how things should've been handled. I think it was handled fine.

I also just want to say thanks to the mods here for keeping this a constructive and active board. Also, the same to most of the posters on here. It's the only sports board that I bother posting on and I really enjoy reading others' opinions and the responses. Been on here on and off over the years but it's typically a good conversation with knowledgeable, passionate baseball fans.

Can't wait for the next time a few people "don't insult" a guy.

Irritated that HH is BS. No harm in giving him some faith... while annoyed it's BS because that's some childish junk, I'm no worse off for falling for it.

We showed 2 sides of wrong around here though, no matter what the side that's still here wants to say.

No disrespect intended but if you don't post much because you don't find the board to be polite enough, I'd hate to imagine what you think of the rest of the Internet. I've posted on many Brewer boards (ok, like 5) over the years, and this one is by far the most heavily moderated and least confrontational.

Hold on now, you were one of the first and most aggressive toward those that made it clear that HH was full of it. Don't run and hide from that now. In fact, that group was a whole lot more aggressive than the group knocking HH. Sure, there was a lot of sarcasm, but no one really went after him with much vigor. The problem was that folks starting making a false narrative that he was actually predicting anything. When he started spouting off about not posting anymore because folks didn't believe him the, let's say believers, got all hacked off over nothing. I don't need an apology from the mods as I think it was handled well. I do think there are others that I can't say that about but those folks will never admit just how bought in they were to something some of us saw clearly.

Run? Give me a break buddy. It isn’t about whether or not that he was full of it. Never had been for me. It was about how some wanted to respond to it. You wanna pat yourself on the back about being right? Go ahead. No one is stopping you. But this isn’t what this is about. But don’t let that stop you from doing what you usually do around here.

The only surprise for me is that he actually admitted he was a charlatan. Like others have said, it just didn’t fit the pattern of someone with actual inside info. It was *too much* info, while also being vague and/or throwing out lots of names. The biggest tip offs for me were that he was incredibly thin-skinned (yet he kept coming back), and then would take a victory lap if he ended up being correct.

Thanks for proving my point.

Edit And as many have pointed out, and I agree, this just didn't happen.

I love instigators, who cry foul. Happens all the time... start across the line, claim innocence, point at the guy who joins the mud and throws it at you.

That's my problem with what unfolded here and its sad to see it won't be changing because they still see themselves as faultless.

I really didn't notice anything that would have been considered over the line toward HH. I found the people calling them out over nothing much more annoying. Any heat he got he had coming, and that was evident before it was shown he was full of it.

Man, ***!!

I feel like such an idiot now.

I was really hoping we added Cobb.

Well, we still might. It doesn't really change anything that's already been discussed. The Cobb thread started before HH did so I'd say the board was already all over it. All HH was doing was claiming already available information\likelihoods and claiming them as his own. The landscape hasn't changed.

Even if he wasn’t a troll, getting him off the board as soon as he started making demands and dividing the forum would’ve been for the better of the community, regardless of his rumors were true.

Thanks mods for all your work, this remains the best sports message board I know.
