Re: Alex Cobb

I'm about to get banned appaerently by the moderators at BF.NET according to their most recent email because I won't be a bf.net minion and be mister good poster.

So, the Brewers a week and a half ago gave Cobb an offer of 3/42. He obviously did not accept it, but its still on the table and was the highest offer as of a week ago. Brewers will pursue harder if their staff has more injuries or ineffectiveness going forward.

Then you won't be posting here.

To everyone:

There are two mods here with connections to the Brewers. Legit connections. Both of their sources have told us that HH has no insider info. You are welcome to do with that news what you want but we have kept it under wraps for a while because posting rumors isn't really against board rules. But this has become a circus and a lot of time and effort is made cleaning up the board after an HH rumor is posted. And given what we have heard we asked him to stop doing so. He is free to post here about baseball but we asked him to stop posting rumors.

Obviously based on the post above he has chosen not to listen. Now if Cobb signs for 3/42 we will look pretty foolish but that's ok.

Edit: but based on what will end up being HH's final post here, it looks like we don't have to worry about looking foolish

Thanks for clearing it up.

I'm obviously shocked as everyone to learn that there isn't someone present at the table for discussions between Stearns and Arnold who is leaking sensitive information to a friend and continues to do so after said friend continues to leak this info on social media and internet forums.

Hopefully in the future when people are politely skeptical about the source of 'inside' information, others will understand the skepticism of some rather than letting gossip rage like a wildfire every time.

I think I owe all an apology because I have known (certainly not since the start, but for the past couple of weeks), that HighHeat absolutely had no inside source within the Brewers organization, and never did.

So I could have helped diffuse some, but not all of the drama here this offseason, certainly the most recent weeks.

Our moderators did an amazing job all offseason working through all the emotions and words generated. Our moderators are pretty spectacular in my opinion (volunteers who are certainly not overpaid ;)), and help make the Brewerfan Forums the worthwhile discussion location they are. They were presented with a delicate balancing act now for months, and handled things the best they could.

Of course, a sub-forum such as this that includes the word "Rumors" in its title is always going to be the most dramatic, particularly in the offseason and again pre-July 31st.

Thanks for visiting and/or posting, and if possible, let's return this mega-thread into solely an Alex Cobb possibility discussion.

People should have known that there was always this chance but I am a little baffled mods knew he was a fraud and didn’t stop the madness. I guess what’s good for site traffic maybe. Anyways, Cobb is still a fit at the right price.

This probably all could have been avoided if we would have been told this. I understand it’s good for the site traffic but the horribleness of people has really come out after this. Why allow someone whom you know to be lying and a false prophet of sorts to get people arguing? In the future it would be appreciated if you could dispell this.

There's a pretty massive yin to this yang that you aren't mentioning. It's all about showing respect for other people, regardless of if your opinion differs or you disagree.

But it's about being able to challenge things without people getting offended. More importantly, it's about the fact that while everyone deserves personal respect, not all opinions, behaviors, or takes deserve respect. HH19's attention-seeking obviously didn't deserve any, and it's inevitable that not all opinions will be respected.

This forum is very unusual in my experience. I'm getting used to it, but holy cow it's touchy for someone new here. There are advantages and disadvantages of course, and I wouldn't want this place to ever turn into a complete poop-show like some forums that aren't as tightly moderated, but I think we were the opposite extreme during this protracted debate.

Bottom line, trying to enforce a thing as vague as personal respect in such an impersonal space can easily turn into not allowing any scrutiny or dissent at all.

Had nothing to do with site traffic. None of us profits from having more posters (none of us profit period) although the additional ideas that new people bring is interesting and adds fresh perspective.

Obviously in retrospect we should have been more proactive, but the fact that mods heard he had no sources came just about the time he had told everyone he was done posting here and had deleted his twitter account. We figured that was the end of it. Should we have banned him then? Probably, but he technically wasn't breaking any rules and he was contributing non rumor posts. But when he came back and started up again we figured we had to do something. It takes a while to get consensus from the moderators since we aren't all on here every day and in particular we needed consent from the folks with the sources.

Please use this thread to help us do better in the future. We look forward to your feedback.

Don't post much but constantly follow the forum. I thought this, as with any other issues, was handled very well by moderators. They were proactive in stepping in when issues arose while keeping the spirit of the forum.

As far as HH, gracias por nada.

Eh, I had no problem with HH. It was fun. I see no harm in posting rumors or calling out said rumors as false. I was puzzled when people aggressively challenged HH and was puzzled when HH got offended. It's just a forum for discussion not a court of law. No need to be so serious about it.

Kidding. It doesn't really matter. Just hope no copy cat's come and start messing with that place is all.

I am sorry, but I don’t believe HH was every treated wrongly. Maybe an occasional post, but almost every single person did nothing wrong while questioning him. Not like legitimate arguments weren’t being brought up on why he didn’t make sense or people should be skeptical. The entire situation just flat out did not make sense.

I guess it makes sense why mods were starting to make fun of him. His comments never really added up and I’m surprised more people didn’t catch on faster. Played out exactly how I imagined. Got lucky a few times, got overconfident, started to not make sense and got caught up in the lies.

Yeah, it is. People started rewriting history to fit the narrative that HH was an insider. It was odd. He'd take something that was well known fairly likely to happen, run with it, and take credit. Darvish to the Cubs. Sometimes, the story and narrative would change to fit, so 'Big trade coming with an AL team' somehow became 'HH called the Yelich deal!"

It's how psychics make money. Throw something vague and general out there, get a bite, run with it, and if need be, change the narrative to fit.

Gotta love the people running to tell us they told everyone so. I guess it makes some feel good in their lives.

I was initially guilty of this as well. I remembered how the Lucroy stuff went down a couple of years ago differently than it actually had when I went back and actually looked again.

I had my suspicions because he posted exactly the opposite of how someone with insider info would post. Usually you get the information and you post all of it and then either the person who gave it to you sees it or someone else with the team sees it and wonders how it got out and then the person who gave it gives out less info or none at all.

Here it seems like it was names the Brewers were connected to in the media (hence the no insider info, just guessing that the Brewers would actually pull the trigger on a name they were connected to) and then after that it was a bunch of names that aren't available but might be if their team is out of contention in the summer (Stroman, Paxton etc.) I have no doubt teams discuss players that might be available in the summer all the time but that's so far out that I doubt anyone willing to share inside information with their friends would even bring it up to them at that time because so many things can change from February to July.

Typical inside info starts with too much information given in the beginning and then scale it back. This was a little information in the beginning and then just a bombardment of names after that.

I initially assumed HH was a Cubs or Cards fan on here trolling. His style and defensiveness to criticism fit the bill for others I've seen on other forums over the years. As I don't post much, just check in here often to see what other brewers fans are discussing, I was curious at how many supported HH's credibility, So I too began to believe, to the point I fell for the 9:00 PM thing. It was then he lost me for good. Anyway the discussion was valuable and a good way to pass a long off-season that still hasn't concluded. So for that, Kudos
