My wife and I are finally binging The Wire. We have HBO, but just so everyone knows, a bunch of their shows are free right now online.

The Wire has been on my to do list for ages, have just never gotten around to seeing it... So HBO is currently free?

No, a selection of HBO shows are free. Here is a link: https://www.hbo.com/hbo-news/watch-hbo-free-no-subscription

My wife and I also enjoyed Big Little Lies- it was pretty intense. We plan to watch Sopranos next.

McMillions is worth a watch, I think it's only 6 episodes and I binged it in one sitting. Documentary about an FBI investigation surrounding the McDonald's Monopoly promotion and how a group of people, loosely associated but all under one major insider con man, chose who would win the million dollar prizes for over a decade. Wanna say from the late 80s to early 2000s. Fascinating stuff.

I just binged Castlevania on Netflix, and I was really entertained. The amount of gore and body parts might be a turn off to some people, but the story telling is actually really well done, and yeah, it's another "Dracula is kind of a sympathetic character, in a way, if you look at it in a certain light" story, but there's enough going on to make it worth watching. Unlike a lot of Netflix originals, it's got a nice pacing to it, and it doesn't drag with a lot of unnecessary exposition to lengthen the seasons. Worth watching if you don't mind a lot of semi-realistic cartoon gore and gratuitous F-Bombs.

Also one of my favorite NES games back in the day.

Question. Do I have to have watched Breaking Bad to watch Better Call Saul?

There are some flash forward scenes that you won't understand but I might even recommend BCS before Breaking Bad so you don't know who lives, dies or will not appear in Breaking Bad.

I'm torn because I think they play off of that knowledge as well, but I think you could watch them in either order really. It'll form some interesting discussion once there are people that have watched it in chronological order to see if they feel like they missed anything watching it that way.

BCS is set up to watch after Breaking Bad. I think you could do it either way, but since Breaking Bad was over before BCS started, I'd watch Breaking Bad first.

The Wire is also "free" on Prime Video, for those of you who have it. I've never had HBO, so finally watched it on Prime last year. If you haven't seen it, put it to the top of the list. Argument can be made that it's the best drama series ever.

Showtime and EPIX had a couple weeks of free channels, all of their channels were free with cable. I recorded a bunch of movies to watch at a later date.

I am surprised that HBO and Cinemax haven't followed suit. Cheap SOBs.

Question. Do I have to have watched Breaking Bad to watch Better Call Saul?

If you're asking because you don't want to watch Breaking Bad at all, ever, then no, you don't have to watch Breaking Bad in order to understand Better Call Saul.

But if you intend to watch both shows I'd recommend watching Breaking Bad first.

Mainly because the characters in Better Call Saul aren't as in the forefront of the story in Breaking Bad so you'll come off watching Better Call Saul only to see the characters you grew to know really well on that show be pushed off to the side in Breaking Bad. Not that they aren't important, they're just not the focus. I just think it would be awkward to watch it that way.

Bosch on Amazon Prime is a good one if you like a slow burn detective show.

Seconded. Bosch is pretty darn good.

I like Bosch, I always seem to blow through the new seasons in just a few days. It sort of tries to be The Wire but lacks the humor and memorable characters. I think pulling off the comedy is what separates the truly great crime dramas like Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Wire, Deadwood, Justified, Saul, Boardwalk Empire, maybe The Shield need to watch that again. Those shows are all hilarious and that's what makes them worth a second watch.

Just finished Homeland, it's a solid final season.

My wife loved Yes Dear when we were in college. So, her birthday is coming up and I realize Yes Dear is on no streaming devices. Okay, no problem. I'll just buy the DVDs for her bday. Wrong. It's like the show never existed. The only spot that I have found looks like some bootleg sketchy site where the creator lacks basic grammar skills.

Yeah, I've been waiting for the Drew Carey Show to come out on dvd for years, but no luck. Just Season 1.

Apparently there was an issue with the music rights, so rather than release it with a fake soundtrack, they choose to not release it at all. I'm glad of that though, I don't want it with crappy fill in music.

Yea, I've read that's the issue with Yes Dear too.

Now that I've watched 4 seasons of BCS I'd be really curious to hear from someone that watched BCS first and then watching BB.

Another couple of shows I really liked recently: Mr. Inbetween on Hulu and Zero Zero Zero on Amazon.

Binged the whole first season of Upload on Amazon Prime over the weekend. I was a pretty big fan of The Good Place during its run, and reading the previews for Upload, I figured it would be somewhat similar. I was wrong, but in a good way. Really interesting show with a lot of laugh out loud moments, but serious undertones. I'm a fan, and am excited for Season 2.

Recently finished Clone Wars and Rebels. I may watch the Mandalorian again now I have a better understanding of Mandalor and the Dark Saber.

Been doing a Star Wars start to finish watch through. Watched the last season of Clone Wars as it came out so it's taken some time but I'm back up to A New Hope now. I think I like Clone Wars overall more than when I first watched it, and the last arc was really great. Rebels wasn't quite as good as Clone Wars, but I still like it.
