A couple of obvious questions regarding Game of Thrones:

1. Did no one worry about, or catch STDs? I would think STDs would be running wild at that time, given behaviors.

2. I'm assuming that during those times, women didn't shave their entire bodies, yet on the show, they were always hairless.

These are just thoughts.

The Office. One of the best comedies ever made.

Leaving NF in 2021.

Looks like you can buy the whole series on DVD for $20-$30, the cost of a couple months of Netflix. I don't understand why people are losing their minds over this.

My wife and I watch Friends most nights before we fall asleep. Switching discs is a pain once you get used to streaming. Worth losing your mind? No. But a modest inconvenience? Yes. I’m frugal and will continue switching discs. We just have ad-laden Hulu for $1/month and can’t stream Friends anyway.

I buy all my favorite TV Shows on dvd. I just like knowing that I own them, and if I want to see them, at anytime, I can.

They have become so cheap in the past couple of years, I can't see not owning them.

Stranger Things Season 3 was awesome. I didn’t care much for season 2 so I was not too excited for this one but I think it turned out great like the original season.

**Stranger Things Spoiler Alert**

In some ways I like season 3 more, but in other ways I thought it was the worst of the 3 seasons. I just can't get past the whole Russian base under the mall thing, just came off as a James Bond spoof or something. Also, as someone who "came of age" in the 80s, they tried WAY too hard to hit us over the head with 80s clothes, products, music, etc.

I'm just dissapointed because they could have gone a lot of interesting ways in season 3, and the Russian thing just didn't work. Also, the whole Mind Flayer and Upside Down were always mysterious and scary. Turning it into basically just another monster chasing them around was a mistake. 1/3 Wonder Years, 1/3 Bond, 1/3 Alien = Meh.

Incredible ending though, literally had tears in my eyes.

I don't recall the ending...but I was never a big fan of Stranger Things. I watched it because I pretty much always have my computer on streaming something, even if most of my attention is focused elsewhere. Only when I can't take my eyes of my computer do I upgrade it to "must watch on real TV" status.

But I get why people loved the 1st two seasons. I'm usually very easy to please. I don't have high standards for TV. It just has to entertain me. Stranger Things barely did that and I found the Russian base just too ridiculous. Like they can pay off some small-town Mayer and build this enormous base with Russian Soldiers during the midst of the cold war.

Anyway, in my boredom I watched two shows I never would have checked out. "Fleabag," and Marvelous Mr. Masiel." I thought both were hilarious. Sorry if I'm late and others posted these, but I just watched them recently and thought both were hilarious.

I also was forced to watch Veronica Mars and was told, "seriously, you'll love it, she is so funny." So, didn't know who she was, but that was a pretty clever show and entertaining in a...-if you're going to be held hostage by a GF/Wife, it's not the worst thing you could watch-type show.

:laughing Fair points. However, when a young girl goes into a fire holding 3 old fossils and she comes out the Mother of 3 young Dragons, you need to suspend your disbelief a bit to begin with.

Also...could account for the lack of body hair. It was burned off. And maybe those were the grooming habits back in the day, they just didn't happen to make it into the literature.

I used to do this....but at a certain point is started to feel like when I was a kid and my Grandparents had all these old movies on tapes. And not the normal tapes, those smaller ones I believe.

I don't know, it's so cheap to stream, but it's also pretty cheap to buy a DVD. Whatever makes you happy.

Sounds like you have Amazon Prime. Try the tv show Patriot, only two seasons. Nobody has taken me up on that yet, it may be my favorite tv series of all time. It's not a background noise type of show, it needs undivided attention. (not the movie THE Patriot with Mel Gibson.)

If you like "Fleabag," Phoebe Waller-Bridge (the titular character) was the show runner / writer for the first season of "Killing Eve" a BBC show that's worth tracking down. (Don't remember if I gave the show a plug earlier in the thread vs. thought about doing so.)

Black Sails

Anyone watched this series from a few years back on Starz?

I finished Game of Thrones and went straight into Black Sails, and so far, I love it! (just finished season one)

Yes, it's really good. For whatever reason I never finished the series, I started watching season 4 but only watched 3 or 4 episodes and never went back. It was good though, more my fault for letting it slip out of my consciousness. I'm pretty lazy about keeping up with tv shows sometimes and it's not the show's fault.

So many good characters though, Jack Rackham is my favorite.

Yeah, I actually watched season one and 2 when we had Starz in our cable package, then lost track of it. Starting over, and like it more now than the first time I saw it. Glad there are two seasons I haven't seen yet, will be that much more fun after season 1 and 2...

Black Sails felt like a soft core porn.

I have heard that same comment describing Spartacus which I haven't seen, must be a Starz thing. I watched Black Sails and liked it but I like a lot of those period dramas like Vikings, Deadwood, Rome, etc.

Actually, there is just as much sex, if not more, in Game of Thrones if you want to be honest about it... lol

I definitely agree. Starz just has a different feel to it. Can’t put my finger on it.

The best night of television in my adult life was Thursdays on NBC during the 2009-2010 season:

The Office

Parks & Rec

30 Rock

Community

That was the last time I regularly sat down for live TV. I challenge anyone to name a better 4-show lineup.

Because you’ll probably look it up: Friends and Seinfeld have been paired together (94-98), Friends and Frasier have been paired together (98-00), Seinfeld and Frasier have been paired together (93-94), but all 3 were never regularly aired on the same night during the same season.

Loved that night as well, minus 30 Rock, I always skipped that one. I find Alec Baldwin to be a total douche, and can't watch him. The show might be good, but I can't get past him, so I'll never know.

Through 3 seasons of The Wire, outstanding.

This is on my "to do" list as well. Everyone who I have ever talked to has loved it!

I suggest "The Shield and NYPD Blue" as well if you haven't seen them yet.

NYPD Blue is one of my all time favorites.

I feel like when I was in middle school circa the early 90s that The Simpsons, In Living Color, Married With Children & one more, maybe Herman's Head?, were all on Fox Sunday nights.

I’m not really an Alex Baldwin fan either (nor a qualified judge of talent), but he absolutely crushed this role. You and I seem to have similar tastes in television (The Goldbergs, am I right?). I think you’d dig 30 Rock if you gave it a try.
