I knew Vogt was a fun dude, but this was great. I hope he does make it back before the regular season and sticks on the roster. Seems like a solid "glue" guy.

If he has to take a rehab assignment to AAA, he and Dillard would make a fun goofball battery.

Vogt appeared in one of his videos last year while he was rehabbing in CS. Don't remember much, just that it was a very brief cameo.

Don't dismiss Bethancourt as an option.

I agree. Strong defender, and has actually looked decent with the bat. Younger than Bandy too.

I like Bethancourt, but I think he'd really benefit from playing and catching full time in AAA for awhile.

The Padres really screwed up his development. Hard to understand why a team would take a great throwing young catcher with an underdeveloped bat and decide to move him all over the field and saddle him with learning a bunch of positions on the fly, while rarely getting at-bats for 2 years.

He's on a minor league contract, so I hope to send him to AAA and give him an opportunity to try to develop into the next Manny Pina. Either settle for Bandy as the back-up catcher for now, or explore the trade market.

i'm not sure if vogt starts his minor league rehab assignment today. one has to wonder if the brewers plan to rehab him for only two games, and then activate him wednesday. the brewers would most certainly dfa jett bandy at that point, which would conveniently open up a spot for wade miley on the 40-man.

I would think that Vogt would need more than two days, but maybe he's done a good job of keeping his legs in playing shape. Never thought I would say this three weeks ago, but the Brewers could really use Vogt's bat right now. And this is a guy who has slashed .244/.297/.412/.710 over his last 835 plate appearances.

the brewers could opt to start bandy for of the the next two games to give manny pina rest, and then count on pina to play wednesday before thursday's day off. that would allow vogt to ease back into things by friday, but be on the 25-man wednesday for pinch hitting.

As much as I despise his throwing arm, the catcher position thus far has been a black hole offensively. I guess he's worth a look for awhile at least. What would be nice though is that if/when he doesn't hit and provides nothing defensively, they make a change unlike with Sogard.

His throwing arm negates anything his bat might add to this line-up imo.

I think it depends on the opponent. Some teams run a lot and some don't run at all. Also, Vogt was league average throwing guys out his whole career until last season. Either he fell off a cliff, his pitchers didn't know how to hold runners, or he was hurt.

In today's game, stealing doesnt happen as much as it did in the past. a .789 OPS from the catching position would help a ton for the offense. I think you can rest him with teams that run often.

That may be true, however, if teams we play know that he has a noodle arm, they will probably steal more than normal. If I was managing against him, I know I would.

vogt caught five innings for biloxi yesterday and homered in two at-bats.

He also gunned down a steal attempt, a very positive sign for him.

I'd rank his arm at about potato gun level.

Given our findings, it is reasonable to say, at the least, that the pitcher is more responsible than we conventionally think when it comes to catching base-runners stealing -- largely due to the fact that we know that a pitcher's CS%, isolated or overall, correlates highly with CS% for the battery as a whole and twice as much as a catcher's CS%.

vogt wasn't involved in that caught stealing on wednesday. it was a pickoff move made by the pitcher in the top of the second inning.

last night, vogt had a throwing error in the 5th against isan diaz trying to steal second. diaz made it to third on the error, but was later tagged out at home by vogt on a fielder's choice.

vogt also singled in four at-bats.
