RIP Tito Francona

DocLuna7

I thought it worth mentioning on here that former 1970 Brewer Tito Francona passed away yesterday. Though he wasn’t a Brewer very long it is always sad to see guys from our inaugural season pass away. RIP Tito

I didn't realize Tito had played in Milwaukee. Turns out it was his last year in the majors.

Dude hit .363 one year.

The Brewer roster was in a constant state of upheaval the first few years. A lot of guys came and went. Some like Francona were at the end of their careers. He was used almost exclusively as a lefty PH specialist. One move I recall was they added Dick Allen's older brother, Hank Allen. Hammering Hank he was not but was it a coincidence that when he became a Brewer he was given #44? No, I don't think so. I know when I saw #44 stroll to the plate that year and be introduced as "now batting for the Brewers, number 44, Hank.....Allen" there was some mixed emotions. Oh well, it was baseball and I was okay with the Brewers paying homage to the more famous Hank who made his way back anyway.
