Ugh, hopefully he's just a deep depth signing. I don't want to see him anywhere close to the ML rotation.

Yes seems to have struggled last season, granted it was in the AL East. Hoping he's not the only starter we sign.

Gross. I remember seeing him pitch against the Brewers last year and thinking 'Wow, this guy is awful.'

I agree with Joey, there's no way he should be cracking this rotation even as is. I'd much rather see Suter or even Yo as the 5 starter.

Heck go ahead and add Wilkerson and Bubba Derby to that list.

2012-2013 were nice when he threw a sinking FB 40% of the time. He has been around 30% every other year. None of his pitches get impressive results though so not sure why he's added here. Also rans like guerra gallardo suter wilkerson seem to have it covered at 5 even with no addition. Miley too?

Granted it doesn't hurt but its kinda strange if they expect to add a guy like cobb or arrieta.

How many Espinos do you really need?

Reminds me of the Tommy Milone signing last year. The Brewers seem to have a guy like this in camp every year. If he makes it at the expense of someone like Woodruff, Suter or even Jorge Lopez, I'll be disappointed. But ... if they need starters to to be shelled as sacrificial lambs at Colorado Springs, while the real pitching prospects are in Biloxi, I guess it's fine.

Any chance, as a lefty, he can be converted to a relief pitcher? As a depth move this isn't terrible....

None of his pitches grade all that well.

He's developed a cutter but unsure if it all that good. His sinking fb was good 4 years ago. Change is solid. But you'd have to completely tear up his pitch selection and pick 3 to hammer. Sinking fb, cutter, change is kinda similar. I'd prefer reliever if it was cutter curve or slider and change.

Amazing that guys like this, year in and year out, absolutely suck but continue to make millions of dollars. Why in the hell would you pitch this bum every five days and not some young buck that might actually have a future? I just never understand this horse poop.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

The contract to me makes it seem he's likely to have a good shot at making the team either as a fifth starter or long man in the pen.

Is it guaranteed if he doesnt make the mlb squad. I'm seeing milb contract heavily incetivised if he makes the squad.

I'd rather hand 5 to wilkerson or suter and call the other the long man.

I'd rather give a new arm a shot than try another milone out.

And I get depth is good but dont we have enough options for 5 yet? Guerra gallardo suter wilkerson... really needed another filler guy? After letting Jungemann go?

No it's not. But why would Miley agree to this contract with heavy incentives regarding IP & GS if he didnt think he had a real chance to pitch and pitch quite a bit for Milwaukee.

So, is this an indication they need more depth at AAA because they are going to be losing potential pieces at that level and need the arm or just a depth pickup or does DS view this as a value option for the opening day rotation?
but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Hopefully he has some type of early-season opt-out date, which he will exercise so he can go pitch every fifth day for the Marlins. That's the type of team for Miley. He shouldn't be anywhere near a playoff-contending rotation.

Injuries can happen at any time. Heck, we learned of the finger issue with Edwin Santana a few weeks ago and one of the Tiger pitchers went down on the opening of their camp & needs TJ tomorrow.

Edit: checked the name - Bryan Garcia, a 22 yr old prospect..

Think the Tigers may be interested in a 31-year-old workhorse lefty? He'd be cheap!
