The Return of Quintin Berry (minor league deal)

Brewers re-sign Mr. September, Quintin Berry

Although this belongs in the minor league thread, I think it probably secures the Brewers playing meaningful baseball down the stretch. I mean, this guy will probably swipe 15 bags in September to help us secure the Central.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

As weird as this sounds given the logjam with the major league roster, the Brewers just needed to sign an outfielder and might still need one or two.

Unless I'm missing someone, before this signing I only counted a max of 11 outfielders total between AAA and A+, and that is assuming Phillips starts the season in AAA and the Brewers promote two guys who each posted a sub-.600 OPS at Wisconsin.

Isn't Johnny Davis just a younger / better version of him. Yes this doesn't hurt at all though and he could help once the rosters expand.

Yes. Which is why I questioned it last year when they brought Berry up so he could make a difference in one or two games. Berry indeed made no difference in any game and made 100,000. Not a bad gig to sit on the bench most of the time.

28 august opt-out. that's late.

dontrelle willis and alfredo figaro are glad that this thread was moved to the minor league forum.

Obviously so that a playoff team could sign him to run for them.

berry was released well ahead of his reported opt-out date. classy move by the brewers.

We've got our own Quintin Berry right now in Keon Broxton. Except Keon is sometimes a good hitter.

Berry is 33 and only stole 10 bases this year...is he even fast anymore?

Probably the .290 OBP is the main culprit there.

Really though? Billy Hamilton has stolen 50+ with just as bad or worse OBP skills. He flat out hasn’t attempted that many steals.

I guess he flat out just didn’t play that much this year.

I remembered he stole some bases when I was in Iowa last week so I went and checked the box score. He stole 3 bases that game. He's played very sporadically throughout the year. Not sure if he's had nagging injuries or just part of the Brewers minor league roster juggling. Only 93 PA's all year.
