Mike Clevinger

I know Danny Salazar gets a lot of attention on this board but what does everyone think of Mike Clevlinger? I think he would be a great trade target for a (hopefully) lower price. Their rotation is already so stacked that they could afford giving up a guy like Clevlinger for Santana. Does not have the big fastball of Salazar but he is a bit younger and does not have the injury history that Salazar does and still had a nice 10 K/9 last year. Only has 175 IP in the MLB so you would still expect some improvement. His peripherals are nice and, most importantly, he has great hair.

Early in the off-season, Salazar's name was floated out there because the Indians have an extra starter. Clevinger's name didn't get floated out there because the Indians are not trading him. Just like with Mejia, the Indians aren't trading him either. That is unless you have a Chris Sale type starting pitcher and the Indians decide they need a front-line pitcher like that at the deadline. If you don't have a Chris Sale, you aren't getting players like Clevinger or Mejia.

Why do you think he would have a lower price?

Why would they be okay with trading Salazar but not Clevlinger?

Money, player control, injuries are all major factors that are better for Clevinger.

Domingo makes sense for Cleveland, for sure, but if you’re after a big deal with Cleveland - expect them to go for bullpen help.

The Indians last two free agents out of their bullpen this winter, and they have both Cody Allen and Andrew Miller headed to free agency after the season.

It doesn’t make sense for the Brewers to trade Knebel or Hader right now, but perhaps Freddy Peralta is an option for future years in Cleveland.

I think Tristan McKenzie is the only kid you can’t pry loose, and I’m not convinced you can’t get Clevinger - but young arms for the bullpen may be the key.

Do you think they'd have interest in Taylor Williams or Jacob Barnes? Tack one of those guys onto a bit of a megatrade with Cleveland.

Adding talent for current and future bullpens should be a key concern for the Indians - whichever kids they like, yes, I would expect them to put emphasis there.

Santana, and young arms for starting pitching, and perhaps a prospect at a different position looks very logical to me.
