2018 Winter Olympics

RobDeer 45
Canada with a rough last week of play. Lost to go to the gold medal game to GERMANY today.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I don't really want to think about the amount of money she spent traveling internationally in order to qualify for the games...but I give her a modicum of credit for figuring out a way to have the Olympic experience without being particularly good at her chosen sport.

I love how she is an American and skied for Venezuela before switching to Hungary. Makes me wonder if I could participate in something as one of the 39 countries my ancestors are from.

Now that the Games have closed, some final thoughts:

The last two Olympics NBC would cut away during the CC to premiere some lame program. At least this time they signed off before going to programming.

I think the 'stach is somewhat overrated.

Was up until 3:30 Friday watching the curling match, despite swearing in 2014 to never watch John Schuster again. I figured the match would be decided in the tenth end, so took a catnap. Luckily woke up in the eight just in time to witness the double-take out heard around the world.

Oh Germany, why? On the PP, all they had to do was control the puck and run out the clock. Why dump it in the zone?

Finally, I know it's been nine days but I'm still intrigued by Ester Ledecka. How often is there a two-sport athlete in the Games? Why didn't the media cover it from Day 1 (O.C.). Because she isn't American? Doing some digging I see the NYT ran a story on her back in November. Also, from the American media coverage one would think that was the only Alpine race she did. I see she also raced two days prior, taking 23rd in the slalom race Shiffrin won.

I thought it was a pretty enjoyable Olympics overall. I didn't get in to some events as much as I usually do, but less time in my schedule was more the cause. I'm always bummed when the competition comes to an end, but right around the corner, we have some more great sporting events.
