Andrew Cashner

Sign Cashner and head to spring training. If he wins a rotation spot so be it. He was a dominant reliever when he was young and his velocity is still very good early in games. He could be the 8th inning right paired with Hader. I have way more confidence in Cashner than Woodruff, Suter or Guerra. Two years, 12 million?

More like 1 year 2.5mil like Gallardo.

I would expect Cashner to end up in Baltimore or even Pittsburgh. I could see him getting a 2 year deal easily. If he has a good first half on top of his 2017, he could become a flip candidate.

Cashner could also take a 1 year deal and try to reset his value next offseason, but I tend to agree he could be a candidate for 2/16 or 2/20. Darvish/Arrieta are tier 1, Lynn/Cobb are tier 2, and Cashner is at the very top of tier 3.

I agree. He screams "sign-and-trade" to me. Really no risk at all for a team that isn't going to be in the hunt this year.

From the Brewers perspective, though, I don't think he offers anything that a guy like Woodruff or even Wilkerson doesn't.

Eh. Maybe he found something last year or maybe he didn't. I don't know that he offers much more than Woodruff or Wilkerson unless the Brewers can really point to something that he was doing different in 2017 from 2016 and they feel it is sustainable.

We really don't know what Woodruff or Wilkerson offer at this point based on very small samples. We do know that Guerra's 2016 was better than what Cashner is likely to produce and that Suter was relatively effective as a 5 inning starter at least so they have several options. I'd be fine with Cashner if the Brewers hadn't signed Chacin or they signed him instead of Gallardo. Now if they have to use Woodruff and or Suter as part of a deal, then maybe Cashner is worth another look.
