What a whiff not out bidding that 1/6.5 Melvin got.

I agree. Packers offer was for two years, but only around $9 million. Easy to see why he took the Raiders' deal. Betting on himself, though.

This sounds just like a Ted Thompson offer to me........if they don't get Matthieu this is quickly becoming a debacle.

Honey Badger just signed a one year deal with the Texans. For just $7M.

Really unbelievable. Apparently Packers didn't want him that badly. Maybe they are still caught up on the height threshold thing.

I think at this point they are going to have to break out the draft pick trades to upgrade the secondary.

Getting incredibly frustrating knowing we will probably chance it on a few rookies to solve our defensive backfield.

Tramon Williams is also very familiar with Pettine’s scheme from their time in Cleveland. And he’s better than Revis at this point in their careers. But I wouldn’t be opposed if they signed both.

I think they took a shot with Fuller, but they were never going to extremely overpay him in order for the Bears to let him walk. I think they were just taking the chance that maybe the Bears weren’t all in on him and forced them to commit. Had they been able to steal Fuller, that would have probably removed CB from consideration while simultaneously creating a CB need for Chicago which would have increased the chance the Bears took a CB and pushed another position down to #14.

I don’t think Mathieu or EJ Gaines were/are in consideration since Gutekunst has said they will stick to the Ron Wolf DB threshold of 5’10”. I get that line of thinking with the draft, but I think you have to bend that rule on NFL vets who have proven they can play. Especially when you have a severe lack of talent at the position.

Ultimately I think they sign Tramon Williams (still a good player who also knows the defense), maybe another vet and then 2 fairly high picks on DBs. Ugh, especially if they let Burnett walk too. Who knows, maybe Gutey will shock us all with a Patrick Peterson trade.

Still some other solid fits out there. Darqueze Dennard is young, decent, and fits the size threshold. Ross Cockrell has been decent. Delvin Breaux if he checks out injury-wise. Dontae Johnson from the 49ers has a lot of talent and could be a good bounce-back candidate. Great size and speed. Davon House as the old stand-by.

Didn't realize Breaux is a FA. That dude is an absolute stud when healthy.

The Jets just acquired #3 overall, trading their first (#6), both of their 2nd rounders (#37 and #49), and their 2019 2nd.

What a stupidly run franchise.

They must want someone really bad. But even so, you don’t know how the draft will turn out. Have you a lot for three spots.

If the Browns actually do covet Barkley (I’m not convinced), this is a big win for them. They can take their preferred QB at 1 and Barkley will almost assuredly still be there at 4. NYG will get a kings ransom from a team like the Bills to move into #2 for a QB. The Bills would likely have to give picks 12, 22 and next year’s first to move up to #2.

Giving up 4 potential starters for one guy, who may not end up being your guy anyway, is extraordinarily foolish. If I'm the Colts, I make this trade 8 days a week.

Yup. The value chart teams use to gauge fairness in draft pick trades goes completely out the window when the trade is to move up for a QB in the first round.

Along those same lines, a QB can't throw you the ball if you get absolutely no separation. And that's where Jordy is. His speed is shot. It was shot in 2016, but Rodgers continued to feed him by getting him the ball on scramble drills and throwing him open. Hundley obviously doesn't have near that ability, hence Jordy's decreased numbers.

When receivers lose it, it typically happens quick. Could Jordy squeeze out a couple more seasons as a security blanket possession guy? Probably. But his days as a star, and even his days as an above average player, are done. And that sucks to admit, because I have been a huge Jordy fan for years.

He certainly doesn't have what he used to, but I doubt this has anything to do with inability to get separation. Jordy has never been a quick twitch guy. He is a long strider and normally runs longer routes. When your QB can't throw accurately past 10 yards, he certainly isn't going to be a good fit.

I'm pretty certain he is going to fit into the Raiders scheme very well this year. I'd put money down that he will be above average this year. But even so I was a bit surprised by his contract. I was thinking more in the $5M range, but hey, someone thinks he has gas in the tank.

It would've been nice to keep him at $5M this year and let him retire a Packer.

If you've got a specific guy targeted for #3, wouldn't it make more sense to wait until #1 and #2 have been drafted, then make the trade? Unless they don't care if it's either of two players, which would be odd.

The Jets want one of the three QBs. By trading up to #3 they know one of the three will be there.

The Browns have to be ecstatic, as they now know they can get their choice of QB at #1 and then Barkley at #4. The Giants have to draft a successor to Manning, and the Jets obviously moved up for a QB.

Burnett signing with Pittsburgh. He will do well there.

Lol. What a disaster.

LOL Hot Take alert!

Please don't let Packer Twitter-like pronouncements take this thread over. Burnett is a solid player, but has declined as a playmaker and has had injury trouble. And Point Beer is 100% correct that Josh Jones was drafted exactly for this scenario. Also the team LOVES Kentrell Brice.

The team has several bounce-back type DBs in mind that they can and will bring in on cheap deals. Pettine has had a habit of taking unheralded guys and turning them into good players in the defensive backfield in the past. Let this play out before writing them off. It's only March 20!

Unless someone of the Tramon Williams type (solid vet with leadership) gets brought in here, this is an unmitigated disaster. I didn't particularly like Burnett at this stage of his career and believe them on Randall, but there is literally zero in the DB ranks right now. So going by that, the answer is to bring in more rookies to go with the rookies that were not good last year? Without a guy like Terrence Newman (mentoring the young MIN DB's) to help stabilize the situation? Hmm? Not to mention our draft is kind of REKT in its current state, we're basically forced to take 1-2 CB very early just to have *bodies*.

I know everyone loves names in the media, but we essentially exchanged one older pass catcher for another and signed a DL with motivational issues. I like the moves but let's not get ahead of ourselves, they both have a TON to prove...it's not the 5 year ago versions of either.
