Cain to Brewers - 5 years/$80M

Oh I'm sorry. Should I have put post #101 in blue or added a winking emoji at the end of it? I thought it was obvious enough that I didn't need to because it's been a running joke on here for years that clancy always wants to move Braun back to 3rd base that it didn't need it. Sorry to have upset those of you with such delicate sensibilities.

If you are looking to get banned we can accommodate.

I wouldn't have even had to make that post if a couple of posters didn't get offended by it for no reason.

When we don't end up getting squat for Domingo Santana, then we will see how unbelievably dumb this signing is.

Teams not trapped. If santana or braun can go 1b... you risk broxton and aguilar not having a spot. We likely will do a deal... we dont HAVE to do a deal.

trwi7 has been posting on here for over a decade since Prince and others were still coming up. Back to the days when I rolled with the BrewCrewWS2008 name (that prediction fell flat sadly). He is not a troll and I respect him as a poster. Def not someone who deserves ban because of a day or two of troll like messages. Not everyone is going to be happy with moves. Plus moves away from rebuild model and gives up ton of favorites in our system. Hardly the first time someone has made a comment about Braun to 3B or me saying I hope Suter is traded so I never have to hear clancy mention him ever again....happens.

I have yet to see anybody tell me why a team with a known glut of outfielders is signing MORE OUTFIELDERS who are OLD and COST LOTS.

Whatever Phillips/Santana deal that Sterns has in the works better be legit.

I am going to bet we are very aware of what we can get value wise for Santana if we made this move. I wouldn't be surprised if they are in the late stages of a trade involving him. We don't create a logjam involving a good player needing to be moved out unless we know already what he is going to fetch.

Can’t speak for everyone but I doubt anyone wants to see a ban. Just to stop the snarky, Debbie downer posts and trying to ruin others excitement. Doesn’t seem like too much to ask.

The Cain signing was obviously lined up prior to the Yelich deal. I think Stearns has a pretty good idea of what he can get for his pieces. He's two moves ahead of Santan/Phillips.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Thank you. I thought that post would be a quick laugh for any semi-regular poster here who has seen clancy talk about moving Braun to 3rd again.

I think it was established that there is no way Santana would ever move to 1b. Supposedly Houston tried it and it was an unmitigated disaster, a la Khris Davis at 1b.

Also, some people saying Yelich in rf? Um, no... why put better range and a much worse arm in rf? It's easily Braun in rf if he stays in the outfield at all, but we should all hope and pray he plays 1b.

Yelich (150)

Cain (150)

Phillips/Braun (120/30)

Thames/Braun (80/80)

With Perez and Broxton (would much rather keep him in the minors than sell low) filling in the blanks in the outfield.

I love that potential lineup. If Santana gets Mejia, holy crap - could be my favorite baseball team ever (sorry '92 Brewers).

Per Dan Szymborski here are Lorenzo Cain’s ZiPS projections over the next 5 years (over 12 WAR would make the $80 million a very good deal)...

You'd think playing back in Miller Park could up the HR totals a little bit. I like the deal! Plus he has been a winner on an up and coming team like this before. Can never overlook the importance of leadership as a tangible to what else he offers the club!

Because the OF is now even better? And we can use those other guys to get better as a team with pitching.

Well, you can check the timestamps on the first one. I didn't actually do that.

Don't forget he's been 360 obp a few times recently. I think his numbers there look a touch low throughout.

Logical, very logical. I mean improving OF and making it easier to bring in a big pitcher seems like it would be a good thing.

Broxton is nobody too be concerned with. Jesus came out of nowhere, nothing to lose sleep over. Trade him for some lotto tix or keep him as a backup since you can trade Thames for more. These guys are very low on the concern list right now.

Come on, man. Stearns is a smart guy and isn't going to be caught with his pants down and 8 OFers. He's been shopping Santana for months and I'm sure has a very good idea of what his market is.

The fact that they signed Cain moments after trading for Yelich isn't a coincidence. This is systematic and planned out as to what they are going to do from here. They aren't done.

The Cain deal is obviously more $ than ideal, no one is gonna argue. But they "why" here is pretty clear to me, they viewed the offensie collapse last year happened because of too many blow contact strikeout guys and they targeted two guys off the opposite type. And both are better defenders. So clearly the OF for 2018/19 is better than what they'd have had without the moves. The last two years of Cain's deal get sketchy. But the Why I just said is logical.

Be honest, without looking it up, do you even know who our 3rd round pick was last year?

So what if he doesn't? C'mon man...

You completely missed my point. It wasn't a dig on him. I didn't know who it was without looking it up.

KJ Harrison

Braden Webb

Nash Walters

Cy Sneed

Barrett Astin

Zach Quintana

Drew Gagnon

Those were our last 7 third round picks. They usually don't amount to a hill of beans and don't move the needle whatsoever on the scale of whether you decide to invest $80M on a player. It's not like it used to be where you automatically give up a 1st rounder...

Cy Sneed was traded for Jonathan Villar, who had a pretty awesome 2016. Despite him falling off in 2017, I'd call that a fair bit more than a hill of beans.
