Cain to Brewers - 5 years/$80M

Brewers want to minimize Ks. The motive here is that obvious...

And Yelich is an All-Star corner outfielder who is capable of playing CF, not an All-Star CF

The addition of Yelich & Cain is a tremendous jump in defense, OBP, and contact rate.

Brewers lose their 3rd round pick, #73, for signing Cain.

Deal keeps getting better!

Be honest, without looking it up, do you even know who our 3rd round pick was last year?

So what if he doesn't? C'mon man...

I thought they wanted to win.

Follow the astros... i did a big write up about this last season as we were imploding. Astros ckear cut Ks going into last year. We were building up but to polish the weaponry that was absolutely critical. Not saying I know the exact metrics but there's a distinct line and a tipping point im certain. We are getting back under that line.

I live in Houston. I watch the Astros regularly. I know all about it. The point is to cut down Ks....yes, but the ultimate goal is to win. Exactly what the Astros did.

I hope deal is front loaded as much as possible. They have ton of room right now but won't soon enough.

You can afford to give him

20 million year one

18 million year two

16 million year three

14 million year four

12 million year five

I'd like that much better than a flat of 16 million or back loaded where it will be tough to move or eat contract latter on.

K.J. Harrison.

Edit: And it's not just losing the pick, it's also losing the associated bonus money as well.

The question now looms. Can santana go to 1st. Can Braun. Do we push the defense even more and start Braun in right and defensive sub in phillips regularly. Gg LF yelich... very good defensive CF in cain... we can hide that RF a great deal. With phillips... that OF is defensive elite.

Let's go get Escobar and Greinke and make tonight a twilight zone. Have them meet Cain and JJ for dinner.

Maybe we can add Brett Lawrie in a deal. He can play 2B.

Stearns will get Odorizzi for an outfielder.

Need to produce runs to win. Santana does that.

Always liked Cain. Was said to see him go, but understood the necessity of it at the time. Glad he's coming back! He's gonna be getting a little long in the tooth at the tail end of this contract, but I don't feel like the dollars hamper the Brewers financially, so.... I'm ok with this, especially if he keeps producing.

You completely missed my point. It wasn't a dig on him. I didn't know who it was without looking it up.

KJ Harrison

Braden Webb

Nash Walters

Cy Sneed

Barrett Astin

Zach Quintana

Drew Gagnon

Those were our last 7 third round picks. They usually don't amount to a hill of beans and don't move the needle whatsoever on the scale of whether you decide to invest $80M on a player. It's not like it used to be where you automatically give up a 1st rounder...

How much does that really matter in the 70s? I feel like teams are not going way under slot in that range.

Last year slot was almost $800,000 for pick 73. So it matters quite a bit.

I'm normally against this sort of thing but you have to evaluate it on a player-by-player basis. I think this guy is worth it. The reason that so many deals like this work out badly is because most gm's frankly aren't good enough to discern between the majority of players who will not be worth it and the few guys who will. I have confidence in Stearns to be extremely picky when making moves like this, and in Cain to age reasonably well and continue to find ways to help the team.

I am excited about the possibility of having just 3 regular outfielders (Yelich, Cain, Phillips) so you can carry 13 pitchers. All 3 outfielders can play cf, and so can Perez in a pinch. Braun can mostly play 1b but also play the corner outfield when necessary. You know have great defense, much better OBP, and more good LHB options. Broxton can stay in the minors if they don't get any worthwhile offers.

Santana + a prospect for Mejia might literally have me attempting cartwheels in my apartment right now.

You expressed in a different forum that you were out to have some fun and rile people up. To the extent of throwing anything and everything out there to see what kind of crazy responses you'd get. How long do you intend to keep this up? Second question, why?
