It will take Burns to get Archer. This I know.

I’m not sure if the Rays even want/need Santana, while Cleveland seems like a better fit. . Maybe they spurn the FA’s, send a package involving Santana to Cleveland for Salazar & Kipnis and Burnes + to Tampa for Archer.

Personally I’d rather forget Salazar and focus on Kipnis and Mejia as the return for a Santana package, and focus on a FA pitcher and Archer.

You know what is a bigger media story and more marketable than Brett Phillips' adorable laugh? Winning a World Series.

It is time to get out of Mayberry, put on our big boy pants, and get ready to compete with the Yankees, Astros, and Cubs

My post didn't even take into account my earlier posts saying that Phillips is the perfect fit on the field for what Stearns is trying to accomplish, as he'd be a Gold Glove-caliber RF, and at 23 years old is just coming into his own as a hitter.

But thanks for being condescending! It's appreciated. :rolleyes

Phillips in RF is a win the WS move. Yelich LF Gold Glove, Cain CF near Gold Glove, Phillips in RF possible Gold Glove. 39 games of phillips was worth 138 games of thames last year.

Even if he's 265/335 with 20-25 hr the guy will be a monster because of his defense.

The Brewers got a good long look at evaluating Phillips and replaced him with Yelich, who is only 2 years older than Phillips.

Yelich has never been a RF, and likely won't be. Sure, you could stick him out there, but he likely doesn't have the arm strength to be a standout. Considering the haul they gave up to get him, I doubt they are going to play him out of position. Yelich is a standout LF and a passable CF. Sure you could keep Braun in LF, put Yelich in CF and play Cain in RF, but then you are wasting both of your top acquisition's best positions.

Sure you are going to see some shifting around at times, but Yelich was acquired to replace Braun in LF, and Cain is going to be the primary CF. That leaves Braun likely getting 2-3 starts per week at 1B, and getting 1-2 starts in LF to provide off days for Cain and Yelich.

That means RF is left to Santana and Phillips. If Santana is dealt .... you see where I'm going with this ...

Got a nice long look at Thames/Aguilar, moving Braun. Got a nice long look at phillips, traded brinson opened winter meeting by shopping Santana.

Yelich didn't replace Phillips. He's moving Braun... finally.

I wouldn't be so sure on that yet. I'd probably wait to see other roster moves before making that judgment. The Brewers brass saying they'll try Braun at 1B is a long way away from them moving him their permanently. We are always trying to put the cart before the horse around here.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I completely understand. You are absolutely right. I'm still going on record saying if Phillips or Santana is still here when the dust settles its going to take a complete defensive abomination by Braun at 1b or injuries to keep him from 90 starts at 1b this year.

I would lean towards this on if Santana is here (which I give a small chance to) but probably not as much with Phillips. It may happen but Phillips is really going to have to push his way into the lineup above Thames if this were to happen. And we know that Thames can be a destructive force in a lineup (and also a dud too).

I can't wait until all this is settled... This is like a merry go round, nothing new, just spinning, rehashing the same old arguments...

If they're going all in I don't think they're all about starting a rookie in the OF as their starting plan. Especially one who almost for sure won't be able to hit lefties and has had plenty of contact issues. I'd guess they view Phillips as the perfect 4th right now due to his great D and ability to play all 3 spots. And it'll get him a ton of ABs as he fills in for everyone, and obviously Braun's likely missing 30ish games. So kind of a dip your toes in approach with him and see how it all goes and due to the good D if he's needed for an extended time they're comfortable with him.

Exactly. I think Santana will be gone, but I expect them to keep Phillips. But there's no way he's the starter. Gotta be Braun or Yelich in RF. I have no idea what they're going to do, but they must have a general plan for the OF.

Say we get Archer for Santana Burnes Peralta

Say we sign Arrietta for 5/125

Move Braun primary first base and corner OF maybe he plays 65 games at each.

Thames moves to a soft platoon, primary PH ala Aguliar last year. Aguliar we DFA or get what little value we can get for him.

Seperate trade for Kipnis. Lets say Kipnis and $10 M for Cody Ponce Villar (just spitballing).

Nelson comes back in June and regains his 2017 form by July.

Broxton is put in AAA or traded for a small peice.

Everyday lineup:

Yelich

Cain

Braun

Shaw

Kipnis

Pina

Phillips

Arcia

Pitcher

Rotation:

Arrietta

Archer

Nelson

Anderson

Davies

Bullpen:

Knebel

Hader

Albers

Logan

Chacin

Barnes

Jeffress

Gallardo

Bench:

Thames

Sogard

Vogt

Perez

Thats a WS roster barring health.

I think that's incredibly optimistic.

If we get Arrietta and Archer the bank is empty, we roll with our 2B situation. That will allow us to add at the deadline (bullpen) if we're in it. Lets keep payroll in mind. MA said he can stretch it but Kipnis would put us in the 130's.

If that ended up being the case, then you hope Hiura is the real deal and fits inside the current 3 - 4 year window.

So we’re throwing in $10 Million for the pleasure of acquiring Kipnis?

I meant the other way around, oops.

So your suggesting Kipnis + $10MM for Cody Ponce & Villar? Cleveland says no.

Cleveland will not need a backfill on the infield if it moves Kipnis. It already has a handful of guys guys to go thru to fill 3B with JRam moving from 3B over to 2B (since Kipnis gone). So let's consider a counter.

Kipnis + $10MM (over 2 seasons, $4 this year, $6 next season) for FPeralta & a PTBNL. For our discussion the PTBNL cannot be anyone from full season minor league ball last season or listed in the top 30 of the BA Prospect list. This would be a true lottery ticket..
