Just an FYI (I did not see it mentioned earlier) regarding considered value of Danny Salazar (Indians) and Jake Odorizzi (Rays)..

Zach Crizer of MLB.com lists right-handers Danny Salazar (Indians) and Jake Odorizzi (Rays), and left-hander Ariel Miranda (Mariners) as pitchers with the potential to reach “ace” status in 2018. Crizer uses some incredibly specific stats to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these three pitchers, showing a potential path to a breakout for each one. The piece includes videos and heat maps as well; it’s an intriguing read, particularly considering that Salazar and Odorizzi have been mentioned in trade rumors this offseason..

I don't believe the Brewers would lose any pick if they sign Darvish as he was traded mid season .

Correct, Darvish could not receive a QO because he was dealt mid-season so signing him (highly doubtful, not happening per HH19 last week).

But signing Cain (since he did reject the QO from KS) is costing the Brewers more than its 3rd round pick

What do you mean Cain is costing the Brewers more than its 3rd round pick?

Per the CBA the brewers are subject to losing their 3rd highest draft pick which would be comp balance B pick however, that pick is not subject to forfeiture so it falls to the third round pick.

Draft picks subject to forfeiture include the club's own Rule 4 Draft picks, compensatory draft picks awarded to the club after losing an Article XX-B Qualified Player, and draft picks awarded as the result of the Rule 4 SBP Forfeited Draft Pick lottery (including draft picks that were subsequently acquired in a trade). Competitive Balance draft picks (including Competitive Balance draft picks acquired in a trade) and a compensatory draft pick awarded to a club for failing to sign a pick from a previous Rule 4 Draft are - NOT - subject to forfeiture.

NOTE: Prior to the 2018 MLB Rule 4 Draft, Competitive Balance draft picks were subject to forfeiture.

They will bring in a TOR pitcher. They have to if they want the moves for the two OFers to matter.

I'd much rather they didn't gvie up another draft pick and another long term contract to a guy who likely won't be helping towards the end years of his deal, but at this point they have given up so much what's an extra 4th round pick if that will mean the playoffs in 2018?

One of the local radio guys, Matzek maybe, said he was texting Bruan after the Yelich/Cain deals and Braun said "they were just getting started". From a practicality standpoint and some anecdotal evidence, it sure seems like they are pressing for pitching. I'm going to stay positive and assume the delay/complication is that they are going after more than one pitcher and they are making sure they align everything just right before pulling the trigger.

No matter what this is not our roster going into the season. Something needs to be done. Looking at the roster, even if we optioned Phillips, we would still have Santana, Vogt, Sogard, Perez, Broxton, and Aguilar. There is no way we only have 11 in the bullpen. We have 1-2 too many position players for our 25 man roster.

I think Santana and probably Aguilar are the most likely to go. In either event, even if we sign a free agent pitcher, there has to be another trade as well.

I am anticipating a TOR addition, but fully expect at least some kind of rotational addition. They are too willing to move Santana(and others) or spend big money to get one. With all the options out there this offseason one will be joining the Brewers.

Nottingham tweeted a couple of interesting things last night. Maybe he was just inspired by the Grammys, but perhaps he's heard something about needing to take a physical this week...https://twitter.com/JacobNottingham

Did he delete the tweet youre inferring to?

I think they're still up there...you just need to speculate:

"He has a plan for me"= maybe I've been traded somewhere again and it's another bump in the road?

"I know who my crew is" = the "Crew" may not be is crew now.

Also a tweet about being ready for Spring Training to start in the middle of there which is just part of the story of those other 2.

Well, sending Nottingham back in a deal with Cleveland for Salazar/Mejia would make sense. It would appear that Santana/Nottingham for Salazar/Mejia does make some sense. Mejia would immediately become the Brewers' #1 prospect and catcher of the future, and with little standing in his way in the upper minors, or really even the MLB squad, he could make a quick ascension. If that were the deal, though, this board might implode from happiness.

Asking sincerely, but why do people think Cleveland wants to trade Mejia? Is Domingo Santana going to be the difference maker that wins them a World Series? I'm just not seeing it....

Almost all of these trade offers are treating Mejia like a throw-in.

I am higher on Mejia than Brinson, but they are I believe the #19 and #20 prospects right now in baseball. I think Mejia climbs higher by this time next year, but let's treat them the same.

People are just acting like we'd have thrown in Lewis Brinson as the tiebreaker in a very close trade. It's kinda absurd. "You think that Broxton for [insert moderate-ceiling AAA reliever here] is slightly in the Brewers favor but very close? OK, we'll throw in Brinson to smooth that out."

Someone just posted Mejia for Santana. I think that is somewhat closer to a reality, but I still think Cleveland hangs up the phone and waits for a few more pieces to be added before they even start thinking about it.

If the Brewers were to get Salazar/Mejia for Santana and Nottingham I'd probably die of a mixture of tears and laughter.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Do we think Thames , Woodruff and Broxton would get us Archer?

No that’s not even close imo i dnt think they’d do thAt without Santana in the deal and even if you swap Santana for Thames or Broxton still would probably need another piece

And that other piece would be Burnes or Ortiz or both.
