Klement's out as Racing Sausages' sponsor; Johnsonville in (see reply #24)

hawing
There's no morality argument in the Klements vs. Johnsonville debate, and nobody is insulted when one takes a side.

I am actually a little insulted by the Klements preference...but I think that is because I am a Wisconsinite and take my beer, brats, and cheese curds a little too seriously.

Sausages at Miller Park are basically microwaved. Any brand they serve will taste like crap.

Perfect reason for why they should cost $3-$4 max.

I was really hoping the huge revamp would mean better quality food...sadly it is rewarmed trash still. The White Sox and Cubs know what they are doing with sausages, that is for sure. Maybe someday we will do the stupidly basic measures to make our sausages taste 100x better.

Pretty negative, guys. That's out of bounds for a non-baseball topic. Better lock down the thread.

If you can't see the difference between this thread and that one then I don't know what to tell ya.

One was discussing the validity of a Brewers theme day on a morally divisive topic, planned for the first time this year at Miller Park. The other is discussing beloved Brewers hot dogs and sausages. There's the difference.

If both are considered non-baseball topics, then the negativity and petty back and forth should be treated equally- lock down the topic like the other was. If both are considered topics related to the Brewers, again lock it down like the last was for the negativity and needless combative words.

If the topic of morality is the difference between the two and you don't want that kind of stuff discussed here, you should take a hard stance against the Brewers themselves promoting these type of days, whatever side of the issue you're on. If it's not ok in your view here, then why there? Instead, silence reigns. Don't discuss it. Don't write abou it. Yet the Brewers can hold a themed day publically celebrated to the masses on it?

Respectfully, If you can't see the hypocracy, then I don't know what to tell ya.

The sausage race does not fall into any of these categories. Discussing the morality of sexual preference does and that type of discussion is not allowed here.

I understand why they go with precooked from an efficiency and food safety stand point, but they are so bad compared to fresh. This is the case whether you get them at the stadium, buy them and grill them at home, or anything. I actually won't buy anything other than a hot dog at any stadium simply because of how bad they are.

Fair enough.... just struggling with this topic and the unneeded change the Brewers are making.

My project got sidetracked by two other types of sausage in my refrigerator that I bought last weekend. I had forgotten about them and needed to cook them before they went bad.

Those were from the Foltz counter at the Milwaukee Public Market.

I bought some Philly Cheesesteak sausage and some Peach Habanero.

The heat of the Habenero dominated my mouth, so I couldn't get any of the peach flavor. They were good, but maybe just too overwhelming for me.

The Philly Cheesesteak sausages are consistently good there. I have had them in the past, and while they don't have enough cheese in the links for my taste, they're still really good.

Both had great texture.

Johnsonville and Klements Polish are on my menu for Thursday night.

The Johnsonville brat grill is a stupid invention. There is never a day in Wisconsin when it is to cold to grill.

Johnsonville vs Klements, both are garbage. Go to a respectable meat market and get some brats. Avoid anything precooked. Way better then anything Johnsonville or Klements can make. I like the Rio meatmarket of Hofs in Brownsville personally. Awesome brats and less expensive than Johnosnville or Klement in the grocery store. Specialty brats are also awesome. Jalapeno and cheddar, Blueberry and cheddar, Blue cheese, gyro, and bacon cheddar just to name a few if regular soaked in beer and onions overnight is not good enough. Grilling is a passion don't settle for mass market brats.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Tune in! :)

After some unexpected delays, tonight was the big taste off.

I prepared them in separate nonstick pans, searing them on one side, then turning and searing again. I finished them by pouring a Miller Lite in each pan and simmering them in the beer. I know that's not how they're cooked at the stadium, but that's how I do it.

They were served on packaged brat buns with Secret Stadium Sauce and diced white onions.

And....

The difference was only marginally discernible to me. I could tell they were different, but not much at all.

BUT...

My wife insists that I wasn't using the right product. I used Klements and Johnsonville's uncooked polish sausage. One of them is labeled Polish Kielbasa.

Mrs. H5 insists that the ones we eat at Miller Park have a red appearance inside (after a bite). These did not.

And I think she's right.

These were each longer in length than Miller Park's Polish. I just assumed it was the same meat & spice blend inside.

Both tasted fine, though not awesome. I would rate each an 8 out of 10 as polish sausage (as opposed to a gourmet artisan sausage).

I'm going to hold off and taste the real thing this season and see if I long for the days of Klements, or if Johnsonville is an improvement.

Had my first Johnsonville Polish sausage tonight. They are much larger than the Klement's sausages last year.

Concession crew was friendly and fast. But my wife's sausage was cold. Mine was warm, but the bun was torn. And the Secret Stadium Sauce bottle was empty at the condiment station.

That was my issue with the 10 million dollar renovation last year. New signs, but same crappy service.

It was $20 million, if my memory is correct.

And I thought last year's sausages were in a more substantial bun. Tonight's was the lowest grade white bread bun.

It might get better as the year progresses, but tonight's experience wasn't anything special.

Got a brat, dog & beer cheese sausage at the home opener. Beer cheese was pretty good, will definitely eat again. Brat was definitely an upgrade too.

The dog was not listed in the Johnsonville grouping on the menu. Not sure if it's still Klement's or someone else but I thought it was about the same as years past.

Had two of the Hebrew National Dogs last night with Stadium Sauce, Mustard and Onions. Delicious, think they're better than the Klements Dogs. My buddy got the Johnsonville Beer Cheese Brat, said it was good. I'll try that at my next game in two weeks. I always liked Klements Brats, but I have always been more of a Johnsonville guy.

I had a hot dog on Monday and it was different than in past years; a little redder and a little longer. It was tasty, though that could have been because I was pretty hungry by then.

The Johnsonville wrap around my dog was inside out, which makes me think it's not a Johnsonville product. Hebrew National sounds plausible, but their name doesn't appear anywhere I've looked yet.

Glad you got to Tuesday's game, JimH5. I hope you couldn't hear my ugly cough from across the section. :ohwell

JS Online reported on the Hebrew National signing:

https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/03/23/theres-new-hot-dog-miller-park-hebrew-national-joins-milwaukee-brewers-lineup/452487002/

There's a new dog at Miller Park, and its name is Hebrew National.

That's the stadium's new hot dog supplier after the Milwaukee Brewers switched sausage from Klement's to Johnsonville, starting this season.

Johnsonville doesn't include a hot dog in its product lineup, so another vendor was found to fill that important concession stand void.

Didn't hear the cough...I'll listen for it on Sunday!

Haha, if you can hear it over the horrific CHC fan chants and songs, then we're all in trouble (maybe me especially).

But that'll be my new strategy: if they get in my face, I'll just cough or sneeze on them.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Went to Sunday’s game. I’ve always been a Klements guy and never cared for Johnsonville. Apart from that, my opinion is that brats haven’t been as good generally at Miller Park. Tend to be undercooked.

Happy to report my brat on Sunday wasn’t bad. Cooked just about right. I can taste the difference between the brands, and I still prefer Klements, but cook any brand of brat correctly? It’s hard to go wrong.
