Could be just baseless speculation, but it’s being circulated... if this Tweet were true the Brewers better be getting a lot back from the Yankees to compensate for taking on an albatross contract.

We should be getting back a big time prospect if that's the case.

He is owed $63M plus a $5M buyout for the next 3 years. Ouch.

That would mean we would clean up on prospects to take on that mess.

There are soooooo many free agents out there yet! The prices are coming down so we are in on more and more guys, imo.

Prices are not coming down. Arrietta, Lynn, and Cobb may settle for less years but the amount per year will not be going down.

......so the price is coming down.

No if you buy 10 items at $20 a piece or 5 items at $20 a piece the price doesn't come down same concept here.

WHy the heck would we want Ellsbury?

Take the contract get more prospects in return?

Taking on his $21 million contract for 3 years would hinder the Brewers’ spending for 3 years. Yankees would have to include a large portion of his contract to make it worth while.

If you follow the baseball offseason. You will see that Sunday night trades are usually high end trades. Everyone is in and working and no one likes to be working Sunday nights. There's alot of people that are on the clock gathering information, medical records, scouts are called, etc. You don't rattle your FO on Sunday nights to trade the Kyle Wren's of the world.

Only prospects make it worthwhile. He is 33 and in deep decline now.

This is taking him on due to our low payroll and raiding their farm system in return.

Any idea if the trade is something a majority of the board would approve of?

The motivation for the Yankees to move Ellsbury is high. I said this earlier, but they are trying to assemble their World Series roster this year. If they move Ellsbury, they will be the favorites in the Yu Darvish sweepstakes.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

If they went after a Jacoby Ellsbury I’d love to see what they do next. Very possible the only reason he accepts a trade is to be released or if the off chance we actually want to play him that would certainly scream Santana/Brinson trade.

Is Stroman a possibility?

Ellsbury is very blah, but would be curious what else would be a part of the deal coming back from the Yankees.

The yankees writer who reported the rumor claims that Albert Abreu would be coming to Milwaukee. He was signed when Stearns was still in Houston.

I would be beyond ecstatic if we could ever get Marcus Stroman but don’t see the Jays giving him up
