Wang to Korea?

billymac

Rumour Milwaukee #Brewers Taiwanese LHP 王維中 (Wang Wei-Chung) might be heading to #KBO's NC Dinos. The 24-yr-old LHP is expect to leave for Korea the next few days to report to the team. cc @MyKBO & @sung_minkim

Interesting if this is the case, clearing a 40 man spot for another move?

Good riddance, enough wasting roster spots for that bum.

Did he insult you personally? Not sure why we have to call him names for chasing an opportunity that is 80% closer to his home. Signing Logan may have blocked him from getting to the Majors this year ... so if he has an opportunity to make some good money and pitch in front of some big crowds ... all the more power to him.

Wish this would have been decided before they cut Baker who I think could have been useful but I think the odds that they end up with another free agent in the end is better than not so whatever.

Wang had a nice run in AAA, but I still think he was going to struggle with the long ball against MLB hitters.

Hard to believe he was discouraged by the signing of one veteran lefty. Chances were pretty good that he'd have seen time in Milwaukee at some point, maybe significant time. Maybe he still sees himself as a starter? He's closer to home for sure.

Good news for Nick Ramirez though.

If signing a career 4.5ERA 33 year old blocked him from getting to the majors he probably doesn't have any business on the roster anyway.

I sure hope the Brewers never try that "rookie ball player Rule 5'ed" strategy again.

I don't blame them for trying. Wang obviously has a lot of talent. While the chances of it not working are obviously greater than having success, that's exactly the type of outside the box-type move that small market teams need to hit one every one in awhile to stay competitive with the big boys.

Right, every signing is a risk. The amount we spent on him pales in comparison to what we spent on Corey Ray or Trent Grisham.

I'm a bit surprised that we let Wang to go Korea. Jungmann didn't surprise me, but Wang had much more promise. I wonder if we would maintain the control over him if he ever came back or if he'd be free to sign with whoever.

Agree with small market teams needing to occasionally make outside of the box moves. But there are many, many ways to obtain prospects and Rule 5'ing rookie ball players just seems like the most ineffective way to do so. Not fair to Ron Roenicke who has to manage with a 24 man roster. Not fair to a bunch of relief pitchers who have to pick up the innings slack because a rookie ball pitcher with a 10+ ERA can only finish games in blowout losses. Not fair to the fans who are playing MLB prices to watch what should be 25 at-least-MLB-ready players, not Beloit ready players. This is a route I hope the Brewers never go down again.

Thing is, it was working out. He had a good season in AAA last year, so at his age still on track to be a good MLB pitcher. We will probably never find that out now, but going over to Korea can't be controlled- unless you just stay away from international players altogether.

not shocking, he was a rule 5 pick from the previous regime, glad to see him getting an opportunity close to home!

Wang had been released by the Brewers after his Rule 5 stint. Anyone in the league could have picked him up.

Don’t let the door hit ya..... bum.

Klassy.

Don't have any time for a guy that we wasted a roster spot on for over a half of a season (in a winning season) when he had no business being an MLB pitcher and then wants out of our organization when he is on the bubble of doing so. Not only that but anytime he was put in the game, he absolutely stunk. Happy to see him pansy out on the opportunity to be a big leaguer.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I never agreed with the Rule 5 pick which basically amounted to him taking a roster spot from someone else. I don't blame any player for wanting to sign an 800,000 dollar contract, especially when he was going to make 1/10 of that in AAA. Good for Wang. Pretty good wage for a 25 year old.

Blame falls on Roenicke who refused to pitch him in any situation unless the game was a total blowout and took away a year of development from him. There's no reason he shouldn't have been used as a semi-LOOGY. And honestly, we still have no idea what he is. He threw more than 5 pitches and faced multiple batters in 1 appearance last year. That's like giving a batter 10 sporadic PA over a month and trying to make any judgement about him. You can't.

That's not his fault.

That part isn't. But ditching out on the franchise that gave you an opportunity is.
