Oh man dropped Ortiz out of the top 100? Wonder where to

I saw that too. I imagine he's a borderline guy. He'll be in some lists but not others. People want to see him step up his performance. He's stagnated a bit.

Was wondering this today. How many guys in our system who still qualify as prospects, were once top 100 prospects on one of the major (Pipeline/BA) lists?

Brinson

Harrison

Burnes

Phillips

Diaz

Grisham

Ray

Hiura

Ortiz

Lopez

Taylor

Bickford

Woodruff

That's 13, but wouldn't be surprised if I'm missing a few.

I'm surprised that Burnes is as low as 74. Would have thought borderline top 50. I could see him and Monte jumping into the top 50 by mid-season.

I think the issue with Burnes is ceiling. He has a nice arsenal of pitches, but nothing is really outstanding. I think it limits his upside in the eyes of some baseball people.

I have dropped the comp a 100x now but it helps keep Burns in perspective for me. He really reminds me a ton of Chase Anderson last year. Really profile, style, stuff are all pretty close. I think having a Chase in rotation is great! He isn’t an Ace but a really nice pitcher who can perform. I feel the same about Burns. I don’t think he will ever be an “Ace” but could be a very productive & helpful arm in the middle of rotation.

Really surprised with lack of Helium for Harrison. Sounded like he’d be around 50 range.

Coulter never made it (just outside in top 150) think Taylor got up to like 98 one year.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

Yeah, there's always some variance in the lists. Heck, Keith Law has Erceg in his top 70, but he hasn't cracked another. He'll have Burnes in his top 50 as well, he loves Burnes.

IIRC Josh Hader was rated somewhere around 30-35 by one list last year and as a low top 100 by another.

Brinson will probably be fairly consistent in both lists. Total guess but I would figure all of Hiura, Burnes and Harrison being somewhere in the vicinity of 50-60 on Pipeline.

Keith Law's top 50 came out.

24 - Burnes

32 - Brinson

35 - Hiura

So 6 Brewers prospects in both Baseball America and Keith Law’s top 100s, and we know MLB Pipeline will have 7 Brewers prospects in their top 100 prospect list released later this week.

Also, that seems too low for Brinson.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

6 spots higher than he had him last year. Mentioned him needing to stay on the field and contact rate which he said might be improved but also might be a product of playing in Colorado Springs.

(originally posted in wrong thread)... fixed now.

I spotted the newest Street & Smith's Baseball Mag in the store yesterday.

You could tell it went to press a while ago as in its 'Incoming' spot for the Brewers it highlighted Dylan Baker.

It had a ranking of the farm systems (Brewers at 11, a smidge too low IMHO & Cleveland at 15, a handful of spots too high IMHO).

It also had a top 20 for each organization. I will not copy over the write ups for each player but here it the Brewer list:

1. Lewis Brinson, OF

2. Corbin Burns, RHP

3. Brandon Woodruff, RHP

4. Corey Ray, OF <----- Had to do a triple take on that listing.

5. Keston Hiura, 2B

6. Tristen Lutz, OF

7. Freddy Peralta, RHP

8. Mauricio Dubon, SS

9. Luis Ortiz, RHP

10. Brett Phillips, OF

11. Monte Harrison, OF

12. Isan Diaz, 2B

13. Trent Grisham, OF

14. Lucas ERceg, 3B

15. Marcos Diplan, RHP

16. Trey Supak, RHP

17. Cody Ponce, RHP

18. Jake Gatewood, 1B

19. K.J. Harrison, C/1B

20. Caden Lemons, RHP

I'm surprised Harrison is that low after being the cause celeb post AFL.

MLB Pipeline released their Top 100 Prospects. Three current Brewers prospects appeared as well as two former Milwaukee farmhands.

#56 - Keston Hiura

#69 - Corbin Burnes

#96 - Brandon Woodruff

Ex-Brewers

#27 - Lewis Brinson

#71 - Monte Harrison

Some prospects must have just missed, because two weeks ago a member of the MLB Pipeline staff had said 7 Brewers prospects would appear on the list.

Just guessing, but I would imagine that Phillips and Diaz were the two just outside.

I happened to see it on roughly 30 minutes into the program. Immediately set the DVR to catch a replay.

As I watched they kept scrolling the top 50 at the bottom of the screen. Saw Brinson was listed with Miami. McKenzie at #24 and Mejia listed at #11..

Even before the Yelich trade the Brewers really were/are short on the high impact prospects. To me, we didn’t trade a Braun or Fielder type bat away in Brinson. Maybe a Corey Hart type of he pans out.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Honestly, this system is still a lot better than it's going to get credit for. It's going to be underrated because it lacks a big impact name; Hiura is the closest but with him not being a '5 tool' type (or East coast), he could probably have a monster year and still not crack the top 10, although probably top 20.

That said, the system is loaded with guys who could be really fast risers and not only crack this list but be high on this list with a big year.

Ray, Erceg, Lutz, Gatewood, Medeiros, Grisham, Ponce, Bickford, Feliciano...none of these guys would surprise me to be talking about at this time next year. There's probably 1 or 2 who in that list who will, so it'll be a really fun Milb season.

I agree about the big market bias on ranking minor leaguers. It’s always been the case. Just to throw out an example, is Chance Adams a better prospect than Corbin Burnes? Let’s see.

Lot of intrigue with the minor leaguers this year:

1. Will Keston Hiura adjust seamlessly to playing defense, including turning the double play with authority on his throws? Will his arm stay healthy?

2. Can Tristen Lutz keep cranking and be on a high end track?

3. Is Luis Ortiz in better shape? Can he huff and puff past six innings and increase his innings?

4. Can Corey Ray make some adjustments and get himself back on top 100 track as a former fifth overall pick?

5. Can Trent Grisham improve his hit tool? While he has had good obp, you’d like to see more hits.

6. With Josh Nottingham succesfully improving his defense last year, can he improve in a more balanced way, both behind the dish and batting?

7. Can Corbin Burnes continue to prove he’s the real deal? There are rightfully high hopes for him.

8. Will any of the foreign teens like Jean Carmona and company erupt?

9. Jake Gatewood took a step forward last year. Can be make another jump?

10. Lucas Erceg is a talented guy who can be inconsistent. Will he put it all together?

11. Will Taylor Williams, Nick Ramirez and Adrian Houser become bullpen assets all the way up to Milwaukee at some point?

12. Kodi Medeiros could be a tough reliever. Will that come more into focus as a former twelfth overall pick in the draft? I have lingering doubts about him as a starter but maybe he will prove himself that way still.

13. Will Mario Feliciano build on his solid year at class A where he was only 18 and acquitted himself nicely?

14. Will Cody Ponce show that he is MLB starting material? Or is he more of a sixth or seventh inning reliever and spot starter?

Overall, I’m bullish about our future bullpens as we have a number of guys who are bubbling up who may be able to thrive in that role.

Does anyone know what rank the Brewers farm system got from Keith Law?

His ranks were locked in pre Yelich trade and posted in the subscriber section at ESPN on Friday 1/26.

Right now I do not know the rankings for 5 teams: Arizona, Colorado, LA Dodgers, Milwaukee and Texas.

The remaining spots are #8, #9, #11, #22 & #26
