Walks too many, but he strikes out over 1/3 of the guys he faces and half the balls that get hit are on the ground. Looks like a solid pickup for the pen for $2.5M.

Looks like 1.9 in salary with a 625k buyout or 4.1 million option for 2019. 3.2 in incentives.

High ERA last year, but FIP thought he was much better. Considering his salary the last two seasons, this seems like a smart gamble. Hope he bounces back from injury and continues to get Ks.

Do we need to make a roster move to make this signing official?

Anyone else find it odd that this was essentially in place on Dec 21st, they finally announced the terms yesterday, but no official announcement and 40 man roster adjustment yet. It’s almost like they are stalling the announcement, waiting on a trade or something that would clear a 40 man spot for him.

Yeah, very odd. Kind of did a double take today when looking at the brewers roster and didn’t see him on it yet. That’s what led me to ask in my earlier post.

maybe he was out of the country, and they had to wait on his physical. Or maybe the physical had an abnormality that needed addressing

My understanding was that the Brewers were waiting on the reports of some extensive medical tests before making the signing official. He had a torn lat and opted to not have surgery, so the Brewers probably ran the test results through a few specialists, just to make sure that he was healing properly.

"Don't force him to choose between Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. It's like asking someone to choose between which STD to contract!"

It's getting a little crazy how long this process is taking. It was reported that Logan passed his physical on Friday. How long does MLB allow a team to carry over their limit of players before officially dropping someone?

Agreed. I mean if this is what you can do, why not delay every signing to not mess with your 40 man until you want to.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

One of the beat writer's report of the deal when this came out last week was that contract language was still being worked out. If that's the case, then that's a legit explanation for what otherwise seems like a delay.

Lack of info doesn't mean the beat writers aren't doing their work. In this case, given the time it's taking, it's clear something about the deal's not quite finished or else it would need to be announced.

I might think differently if the national writers (Rosenthal, Morosi, Heyman, Nightengale, etc.) had reported something since last Friday's flurry of reports on Logan's contract details, but they've all been quiet since then, too.

If there's a delay, how tough would it be to contact Stearns, Boone's agent or Boone himself to find out what the hold-up is? That is what these guys are getting paid for.

And you know this hasn't happened? Sometimes nothing is being reported because there's nothing to report.

Then say that! Say "still awaiting official confirmation, which is why a 40-man move hasn't been made." Maybe it's because this offseason is just moving incredibly slow, but I just want to see some snippet of progress.

If the Brewers are using a method that allows them to do something to help the team, why is anyone upset about this? If they were breaking any rules, I'm sure the league or other teams would have said something about it.

I like that Stearns structured the deal so that it is not overly expensive this year in case he can't come back from the injury, and gives us an extra year if he is healthy and pitches well. At the current price level for relievers, two years at $1.9M and $4.1M would be a steal if he's healthy and pitching well, and one year $2.5M won't hurt us if he can't come back strong from the injury.

Again, I'm glad Stearns hasn't panicked and "paid up" as the reliever market has escalated. This looks like a much more prudent use of funds.

I like the Logan move. I think he has the potential to be the high-leverage LOOGY that the team desperately needed last year. I'm just excited to hear that the team is opening up a 40-man spot by cutting bait on one of the players that probably don't deserve to hold a spot any longer, or that there is a trade in place. At this point, I kind of expect to hear that a player was placed on waivers, and instead they were dealt, but like the spot that was created with the Baker move a couple weeks ago.

Darn ... not the move I was hoping for. Jungmann pitched very well in Colorado last year, but I guess the writing was on the wall when he didn't get a call-up. There are 5 players on the 40-man I'd rather have seen go, though.

1. Oliver Drake

2. Wei-Chung Wang

3. Jett Bandy

4. Andrew Susac

5. Tyler Webb

I imagine these guys are next on the chopping block should another signing happen.

1 or more of them might be removed at the end of spring training for a NRI that makes the team...

Could be but Nelson to the 60 day DL would happen first.

I don't think Drake even makes it to spring training. Drake's chances of making the opening day 25 for the Brewers are up there with Tim Tebows.
