J.T. Realmuto

Eye Black
Also they could be on the upswing in 2020 or 2021, and Davies/Anderson would still be around. Might have to try and extend them at that point but again...incremental increases. And I'll agree with tmwiese, they might not want to incrementally increase and might prefer to keep payroll at rock bottom and just be bad while raking in TV revenue and revenue sharing.

Not to mention a higher spot in the draft order...

Not to get too clancy on everyone but that description OnaBdger58 posted, if read carefully, could equal Woodruff (high end pitching prospect) and Aguilar (position player). It doesn't say position player "prospect". And Woodruff could very easily equate to a high end pitching prospect given his MLB playoff dominance. Just sayin'

I could see an argument for Woodruff as an acceptable high end pitching prospect type. He's still got recent top 100 pedigree, he's got great stuff and he was dynamite for us late in the season and postseason. Who wouldn't want him? Now do I value him as much as Burnes no, but you're right, Woodruff is basically a high end pitching prospect as far as value is concerned.

No way is anyone valuing Aguilar at Keston's level, though.

I took prospect to mean both players, just not worded corrextly. We need to stop pretending Aguilar has the type of value that's going to be one of the main pieces for Realmuto. He's a decent bat at a position that you can get a decent bat for cheap. He's just not that valuable on the trade market.

I wouldn't be a proponent of this trade, but what if the Marlins insisted on Josh Hader? Maybe they'd see him as the next Randy Johnson, a dominating starter that would be under control for five seasons. If they figure their window starts in 2021, Hader is just entering arbitration and would still be under three years of team control.

After starting negotiations, if the Marlins made this offer, would you take it?

Marlins get:

LHP-Josh Hader

Brewers get:

C-J.T. Realmuto

LHP-Adam Conley

RHP-Edward Cabrera

SS-Jose Devers

Again, not a proponent of this trade. But if Stearns sees Hader as bullpen only for the long-term, then that is a very attractive offer for a relief pitcher.

@CraigMish

Sources also indicate Marlins are asking price on Realmuto is a high end young pitching prospect and a position player. A potential two for one.

So Burnes and Hiura.

Burnes/Lutz would fit the bill for McDaniel's rankings. I wouldnt do it losing Burnes. Woodruff/Lutz Id final offer, of course with some lower filler.

Tristen Lutz is not a high end prospect. He has the potential to be one, but he isn't at this very moment. There is no comparison between him and Hiura in value.

Very true but you'd be surprised at scouting staff discussions with some teams where people would be adamant about Lutz being in a deal. Who knows if that's the case with the Marlins, but if my uncle's scouting staff were still in Miami, he'd be insisting on him in a Realmuto deal. Heck, Lutz probably would have been targeted in the Yelich deal in place of Diaz if they were still there when that trade was made.

Reason: Exit Velocity Off the Bat - that's a trait Hiura and Lutz share where the gulf between them isn't as massive as you think. Lutz is simply younger and will have to prove it at higher levels like Hiura has. But the speed at which the ball comes off his bat would lead plenty of scouts to literally getting into yelling matches for him. That combo of bat speed and squaring pitches up is what makes these guys drool.

2019 goal for Lutz will be better feel for the strike zone. Given the hard contact he makes, there's plenty of reason for optimism that he will improve in that area.

IIRC McDaniel is a long time Lutz fan though. He was working for the Braves ahead of the 2017 draft, and was extremely impressed by what their data and private workouts with him showed. I'm trying to recall what specifically he said about it, but basically there were signs and/or data pointing to potentially having immense game power. So since then he's been regularly rated higher on Fangraphs lists than elsewhere.

That is accurate. The video has since been taken off YouTube, but last winter Eric Longenhagen appeared on a prospect video/podcast and said that when Kiley McDaniel was with the Braves they had Lutz in for a pre-draft workout. He said Lutz’s exit velo was “off the scale”. He verifies it was in the 110-115mph range which he referred to as “elite exit level velocity” for a high schooler.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

It completely depends on how clubs analyze and evaluate him. Every club in mlb looks past the fact that he was highly drafted and had a down year at a high level for his age.

That said, yeah there's a wide gap between his lutz at his best and hiura

Brewers Have called the Marlins about Catcher JT realmuto. Price to be steep as expected

This came from @Bucksbrett twitter account who broke the Moustakas trade before Rosenthal last year. So take it how you want to.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Not surprising really at all. Catcher is a hole, and Realmuto is one of if not the best in the game, and is available.

ESPN has a package of Yordan Alvarez, JB Bukaukas, Framber Valdez from Houston for Realmuto

A similar package from us would be Huira, Brown, & Diplan. If you didn’t wants to give up Huira, then you’re looking at Ray, Peralta, Diplan.

In the end I could see a deal not including Hiura. But they would have to really really like Burnes, Peralta, or Woodruff. Then give them Ray or Turange plus one other good piece and you might be able to pull it off.

They aren't going to get a huge big time prospect so they might be better off taking a slightly lesser top guy to get better #2 and #3 pieces.

Right, they haven't been able to get a Robles, Acuna, Soto, etc over the last year. All Realmuto's value has done over the last year has gone down(not significantly, but less and more expensive team control along with a year older). There's no reason a team would all of a sudden offer them that type of prospect when it hasn't happened for a year.

There's plenty of information available as to what has actually happened and previous trades for catchers, that speculating on Miami getting an elite prospect in return for Realmuto is a waste of time and simply not going to happen. Writer after writer projects an elite prospect going to the Marlins, I just don't see it happening.

I highly doubt we could get Realmuto for Ray, Perlata and Diplan. I'm sure we'd already have him if we could.

Seriously? I don't think they could accept that offer fast enough.

I hope we do not make that kind of an offer.

I would be pretty disappointed.

Who said Houston would give that much? It is just a way to drive up the cost. If Houston wants to give up that much, let them.

At the end of the day, no one really know what packages are being offered, and how the Marlins value each of them. Judging by who the Marlins chose in the Yelich deal, though, I would imagine that they are going to focus more on tools and upside than prospects that are MLB ready. But just because a team offers a theoretical package of multiple guys on some arbitrary Top 100 list doesn't mean that the Marlins don't put a higher value on a different package.

Add Realmuto to the lineup and it doesn't cost Hiura or Burnes? Agreed with Matt, I'd jump all over that and don't think it's nearly enough.

What would you be ok with giving up if you're not ok with that?? If you are not okay with making that kind of an offer I don't think there is any reasonable offer that we could make for Realmuto that would even keep them on the phone.

I guess my point was teams don't offer theoretical packages, they offer packages. I trust that DS will not go overboard in trading away the farm.
