Packers Offseason Moves- Latest: Gutekunst Hired as GM, signed to 5-year deal (Joe Philbin-OC, Mike Pettine-DC)

Once Fangio was off the board I think Pettine was about as good as they could do.

I don't get the infatuation with Fangio. I mean, if they wanted to get away from the Capers defense, getting a guy who has been connected at the hip to Capers probably isn't the way to do it.

Personally I would have rather seen Gus Bradley coaxed into coming to Green Bay, because I think the team's current defensive personnel lends itself a little better to his scheme. Pettine is a good choice, though, and is known for getting the most out of his talent. With the Jets and Bills, his scheme made poor players average, average players good, and good players great. There is a lot of talent on that side of the ball for him to work with. The main focus is getting pressure, and CBs locking up receivers with tight man-to-man coverage. I think that plays to the strengths of King and Randall. Getting QB pressure is the key, though. Look for them to spend pick #14 on an outside LB/pass rusher in the Terrell Suggs mold, or attack that position in free agency.

He's from AZ or someplace out west. So not originally from WI. He's mormon so probably has a bunch of ties to Utah. He did coach for GB for years though.

Since I live in Salt Lake City (but am not religiously affiliated), I'm flabbergasted that I didn't know this bit of information. Very slightly related, Ty Detmer was released as OC from BYU Football as well. Either of these guys worth an interview?

I don't see a spot for them on the staff since the QB coach and OC were both hired. Maybe as an offensive consultant. Bevell was in GB before Rodgers / McCarthy so there is no relationship, so I don't really see the need or the advantage of doing that though.
