NL Central just got better. This is a nice get for the Cardinals. I doubt they are done either.

Agreed. I really feel the Brewers overachieved in 2017 so perhaps this is for the best. Let the Cardinals/ Cubs bang heads for a few years as the Crew takes a small step backward in 2018, then starts moving forward again. Except in 2019/ 2020, more of the talent in the minors has gotten to the majors & other questions have been answered so the Crew has a better chance at success/ the post-season.

Agree with this. This really takes the splash trade for a 2 year guy off the table. I'm still fine with free agency if the deals are short, but see if you can patch it together and compete this year and be ready in '19 or '20 to take the division for 5 years.

I guess if you believe last year was the real Ozuna, or that it was his break out season, this sucks. I don't really buy it, but it's possible that last year is the new him. If that is in fact the case, yes, this sucks.

I don't fully buy it either to be honest. Also their bullpen is an absolute dumpster fire at the moment. They lost Rosenthal, Oh, and Nicasio to FA...and even with those guys their bullpen was terrible. We shouldn't worry about the Cardinals at all unless they address the bullpen in a big way.

The Cardinals and Cubs are going to do what they can to get better. We just have to stay on plan, as we are headed in the right direction.

We had a good 2017 and hopefully the moves we make over the next couple of months will allow us to remain competitive in 2018 without doing anything to hurt 2019 and beyond.

Sounds like it is Alcantara and then three lower valued prospects. If that's the case, it would appear that the Cards did pretty well in this trade, as I would have thought that they'd have to give up at least two prospects in their systems Top 10. Marlins continue to make head scratching moves.

Any chance we approach them regarding Strailey? Would he be a good option for our rotation?

Remember that pitching is king, and the hardest thing to come by in this game is young-impact pitching. Alcantara has frontline starter upside, don't undervalue that.

Stanton is a strange case because rarely do teams have to decide on getting out from under 10 year contracts of [still productive] players, but the Marlins are not making "head scratching moves." If you're saying that about the Marlins, you'd have been saying it about the Cubs and Astros 5 years ago.

Have to agree with this. Ozuna is kind of a scary guy because last year he posted a .376 OBP but in over 2000 MLB plate appearances prior to last year he had a really mediocre .317 OBP. If last year was the first year of a new Ozuna then this will be a great deal for St. Louis. But if the real Ozuna is a .270/.320/.450/.770 slash player then he really isn't that special offensively. Defensive metrics have him as a plus corner outfielder but below average in centerfield.

Well, since he went to St. Louis I'll just have to guess that he'll end up being a star, while the guy they traded away will fade into nothingness.

Cardinals could have a good year with these changes, but right now they’re counting on Ozuna DeJung and Pham to anchor their line up and hit like they did last year. But if they regress, and older guys like Carpenter and Molina keep looking old ... it could get real ugly in St. Louis this summer.

They will probably make more moves, but I’m underwhelmed. I live in STL, and people lost their minds last year when PECOTA came out with Cardinals at about 76 wins. It’ll be interesting to see those projections again this year after the hot stove is over.

The Cardinals have the best PED program in baseball so I'm sure he'll continue to hit like last year, if not better.

I'm not really surprised that the market for outfielders is a bear. It's really hard to set yourself apart from the pack as a really good outfielder these days. There's a ton of guys that are pretty good if you look at their production compared to other positions, but then you look at all the other options and wonder why you'd give up much for them. Look at the Brewers with guys like Phillips and Brinson good candidates to be better than a guy like Braun in a couple years, if not this year already. I'm glad they tried to trade Santana but can see why they didn't get much. There's just a bit of a glut, and anybody looking is going to expect a bargain.

Kind of wish they had traded Brinson for Gray at this point and would love Yelich. He's one of those guys who truly sets himself apart from the pack in the outfield because of his consistency and all-around play.
