Carlos Santana

I didn’t get a lot of support on this in previous posts, but I think Carlos Santana makes sense for the Brewers. Would have to juggle trying to get some value for Thames while simultaneously signing Santana. I think Santana will prove to be a more valuable player over the next few years, but it would obviously be a greater financial commitment.

Highly recommend reading Dave Cameron’s Fangraphs piece, The 2018 Free Agent Bargins, where he ranks Santana has his top bargain among 2018 Free Agents (last offseason Justin Turner was Cameron’s top free agent bargain in the same article).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

He just doesn’t make sense. Old guy that is limited at 1B, slow and is a good hitter. Not young. Expensive. Just doesn’t add up.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Have we been linked to him by any reputable source? I don't see the point. Thames is a similar player and much cheaper. I think an intelligent platoon with Thames and Aguilar will substantially outperform Carlos Santana.

2017 Thames, vs. RHP: .390 wOBA

2017 Aguilar, vs. LHP: .372 wOBA

2017 C Santana: .350 wOBA

Santana is a better defender, but he's not getting any younger.
