Jake Arrieta

DR28

I think any opt out Arrieta would want to do would come after 2 years, so he isn't back on the fa market next offseason only to be overshadowed by Kershaw.

He is still going to be looking for a contract that has 4 years of $ on it to take away the risk of an injury this season ruining any chance at one last big payday, and any opt out would be a player option only.

I'll guess a 6 year, $250 million contract.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

3 yrs 63 Million with 2 opt outs & a couple vesting options. Nats is my guess.

Depends on how much the vesting costs and criteria are and assuming the opt out leaves enough planning time, I would think this would be something the Brewers should look.

The opt outs let Arrieta get back into the free agency game when the owners act their usual self next year or two, and the vesting options give him the career money assuming he doesn't get injured.

Plus, more importantly, the opt outs and vesting allow the agent and player to save face.

Yeah I'm thinking it's gonna be along the lines of JDM's type of contract.

So a team is going to lose half a year(of the most valuable year of the contract) to avoid giving up a draft pick on a player they value at $115mil(over $20mil average). Not buying that at all. The value of the draft pick is a drop in the bucket for a contract/player like that.

He holding out for 6/200 right? or is it 7/200 and 6/150? The guess in on that he finally succumbs to what is being offered now, 5/115 imo where a team keeps it at 5/115 even though he's misses 1/3? of the season.

Here's the link on MLBTR: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/latest-on-jake-arrieta.html

Free agent right-hander Jake Arrieta’s lengthy stay on the open market is likely to end “in the next couple of days,” Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets. There are still “several teams” vying for Arrieta, according to Nightengale, who adds that the Phillies look like the favorites to land the 32-year-old.

I believe Phillies have said they dont want to go more than 2-3 years on him.

WE BETTER be involved if its a lower number of years...

Arrieta

Anderson

Davies

Chacin

Woodruff or Miley

So much better!

Wow, we better be getting Cobb.

Agreed. Otherwise you’re counting on Nelson returning to form and doing so early while also getting good production out of Suter, Woodruff, Gallardo or Miley. Just don’t see that happening. Plus Anderson and Davies need to have near repeats of last year.

That is a receipe for diaster.

If we lose Cobb to the O's, Im gonna be super pissed... Baltimore isnt competing for anything in the AL.
