Milwaukee Bucks 2017 - 2018

Outlander

Thon is a bad player and today's trade proves it. We go out and spend a 2nd on a guy who will merely be "less bad" than Thon which by definition is an improvement.

I had high hopes for Thon but at his real age I just don't see him improving to the point where he will be very good. I can't even comprehend a 7 footer with his minutes pulling down fewer rebounds.

A very raw player, undersized to begin with, is only a couple weeks past playing for one coach who everybody agrees was a bad coach. I'm having a hard time thinking of anyone who blossomed under Kidd apart from Giannis, who would've blossomed under anybody. Thon's rookie season had him playing better at the end of the season than anybody ever expected out of him, but this down season and suddenly he stinks? I'd like to see him work an offseason with a different staff, hopefully gain 20 lbs. and start judging next season.

It's not just that he's having a down season. He's one of the worst 10 players getting minutes in the league. He's been absolutely terrible. The difference between playing Thon and playing a guy like Zeller is absolutely huge.

If you think Maker is horrible, I won't convince you otherwise. I don't think he is. Check that, I think he was earlier this season but he has been playing better over the last few weeks. If he does nothing else, when he's active on defense he adds value on that end of the court. His length creates problems.

I also don't care how old he is, because it doesn't matter. Whether he's 16 or 60, he's had very limited experience playing ball at a high level, and his body is still not NBA ready yet. So it's way to early to think he can't improve.

Every player taken in the first round after Vaughn has positive win shares.

That stat makes zero sense to me. I'm aware of it, but looking at some of the numbers for some of the players... the numbers are illogical at best. I don't think it correlates well with talent at all. And aren't wins a function of the entire team? If a team has a great player but doesn't win much... won't that player have a low win share?

Harris blossoming in Orlando is on Skiles, not Hammond.

This.

I have zero issues with taking Parker, but injuries have to be part of the narrative.

Like I said, who among the next 10-12 draft picks is better? Would you have said Aaron Gordon a year ago? Marcus Smart? Elfrid Payton? I don't see anyone better.

I think your angst is directed towards the wrong player. I'm more concerned about Tony Snell, who has scored a total of 13 points over the last five games and is being paid 8 figures this and the next three years.

He has been one of the worst players in the NBA this season. There is an age where you can no longer wager on hope for the future.

http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/ ... 2/sort/RPM

I know that it is Maker's job to guard all five opposing players on the floor on the defensive end, but my understanding is that +/- is how the team performs when that player is on/off the court. (He was +26 in their last game, when Giannis was +11. [sarcasm]Obviously proves your point[/sarcasm].)

Also, the idea that the Bucks have drafted well is hilarious.

I didn't say that. I objected to the notion that the Bucks have drafted "horribly". "Well" and "not horribly" are two different things. And frankly, if you struggle to come up with more than a couple of guys drafted in the 15 spots after they picked each year, they did draft well. Please, other than Joe Alexander (I'll give you that one), come up with more than 2-3 guys among the next 15 picks who are significantly (not marginally - significantly) better players. Please list them.

Okay, here's the guys drafted directly after Rashad Vaughn:

Sam Dekker

Jerian Grant

Delon Wright

Justin Anderson

Bobby Portis

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

Tyus Jones

All of them are significantly better than the nothing they got from him this season.

Sabonis and Taurean Prince are both significantly better than Thon. Drafted the next two picks.

As for Wilson, Anouby, Kouzma and Allen were all on the board and all look infinitely better than a guy who plays the Bucks weakest position (due to injuries thus far, that's been the 4) and can't even see the floor this season.

I had to delete the RPM stuff, the quotes broke my post, but, RPM is "Real Plus Minus" it factors in who's on the court with you and against you and uses an extreme regression model to help normalize things.

+/- totals in individual games are mostly irrelevant, for the Bucks, in general, you're positive consistently if you play with Giannis, negative if you don't.

Again, this season the Bucks have gotten an overwhelming negative from their last 3 first round picks.

If they would've sold off the Brogdon and Sterling Brown picks (as they did with 2 other second rounders) things would look even worse.

Vaughn and Maker are still very young, it is way too soon to say "X" is better than them. Also, it's not Vaughn's fault he's buried on the bench. Part of that is he was blocked. Who knows, if he can get 20 minutes a game now maybe he'll show he's already better than we think. But again, either way, we're talking about young guys here.

Maybe we can trade for Lebron? Everyone else is leaving Cleveland.

Now that Vaughan is away from Kidd he is done. Hope he can speak Chinese.

I can't believe how bad our last three number one picks have been.

Not that bad. Jury is till out on Vaughn. Maker is already a contributor and can still get much better. Side Show Bob? Yea, I didn't like that pick at the time, and still don't like it.

Haven't we already been through this trivia game of how virtually nobody below Vaughn has been useful? Or the other picks?

I’m not even a Badger fan, but I was hoping for Sam Dekker there.

Brutal game today. 18 point lead, goes to overtime, and a loss.

Disgusting.

It was their second loss when leading by at least ten this season. Fewest in the league.

The went all ISO ball in the second half, and it was ugly. No ball or player movement. This isn't 1996 anymore, that won't work.

Once again showing their front office prowess, the bucks are bringing in one of the fifteen worst players in the league instead of trying a flyer on a d leaguer.
