Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2017-18

pacopete4

bjk expressed my point more clearly, I think. We just don't know if the JR class is untalented, or if the staff was unable to develop them. The freshmen class seems to have abundent talent/potential. If they ALSO fail to develop and the results are poor next year, it's indicative of a big problem and Gard should/probably will be gone.

Until then, though, we just don't know if the JR's are an untalented anomoly, or a pattern.

Badgers played their best game in a long while last night. I know that it was against Illinois but it was sure nice to see a formable offense out there. Good win for them to stay in the top 10 of the B10 and hopefully not have to play in the opening round of games.

I dont even know if the Badgers have a "shooter" on the team.

There's no question Ford is a shooter and a good one.

Which always shocks me that they seem to run very few plays to get him open looks. I know he is a freshman but he looks like he could be a good offensive player for the Badgers.

Ford is a nice shooter, but that's really all he's shown the ability to do....been a one-trick pony for the most part, hard to keep guys on the floor like that. Hope he decides to truly dedicate himself to working with Erik Helland in the off-season, gets quite a bit stronger, then plays that way in the future.

Illinois just keeps making bad hire after bad hire, I love it.

UW takes down Purdue! Kids deserved a big win.

If you didn’t watch tonight’s border battle I feel sorry for you. What a great win for this young Badgers team. 22-5 run to close it out in a 10 point win in OT. And I don’t think Happ even got double digits in scoring. Glad I recorded this one. Secured a first round bye into B10 tourney too.

Hoping they can win vs. Northwestern and make a mini-run in the Big Ten tourney. Making the NIT is probably a hard stretch unless they beat MSU, but you hope the team is starting to go on a roll a bit and can build some momentum for next year. Pritzl's play last night and Iverson's play on the boards is starting to be a LITTLE encouraging.

Also keep in mind that while they weren't going to be great this year, losing King (arguably their best freshman) and Trice (forcing BD to play PG way more than he should) are big losses. At least guys are starting to show some improvement and they haven't quit on the season.

There isn't a ton to like about this season, but i'll say one thing. I have a huge man crush on Brad Davison. In three years he will rival Koenig in fans hearts IMO.

The last two games:

1 for 7 vs. Purdue

1 for 8 vs. Minnesota

Not trending the right direction but overall on the season its been good.

Van Vlet!! Nice stroke buddy! That was sure nice to see. Another very nice win for this group and they’ve earned the opportunity to play for a .500 season. Only rotten thing is that it will have to come against Michigan State. Good luck boys!

Well, for all of the talk about the JR class, Pritzl and Iverson seem to be taking steps forward, and Van Vliet comes out of nowhere with a monster game. I still think it's in the team's best interest (sadly) to have a guy or two like Thomas and/or Alex I. move along, but the last 5 games have been very encouraging.

So, if the Badgers do win their last game and say they go 1-1 in the B10 conference tourney.... do they make the NIT? I know that there are teams with better records above them but you can't tell me that the NIT isn't chomping at the bit with a fan base like Wisconsin to pull in some money.

Duke has allegedly/reportedly been named in the FBI probe into college basketball according to ESPN (Golic & Wingo) this morning.

I do not like Duke, but that aside, if they are found to have committed violations for 2014-2015 season... does Wisconsin have their first national championship?

The refs made sure that day that it was not going to happen. Man, I hate Duke just because of that game alone.

I guess there is only one thing for them to do. Win the whole f*****' thing... (B1G Tourney)

I spoke to a Gopher fan and he complained that Happ constantly shoulders, chicken wings, and creates space with his arms and never gets called. However, if somebody from an opposing team sneezes, it gets called. I look at the charges taken by Davidson. There was one foul called against him where the NW guard put down his shoulder. That same play was later called a charge. There was also a foul where Davidson obviously flopped. The result? He got called for the foul.

I have Cardinal-colored glasses, I guess.

I think he and Reuvers are hitting the typical frosh wall...which makes Davison's play all the more impressive, considering he's doing it while most likely needing surgery on one of his arms and playing more minutes than the other two.

I've been really impressed with Iverson's effort and toughness, especially lately. If he could just improve his shot, he could be a truly excellent college player.

I understand Van Vliet leaves some to be desired in other parts of his game, but he does so much for this team offensively when he's out there, the spacing improves greatly...have to find a way to cover up his deficiencies and get him on the floor more.
