Gary Anderson

wildcat83

Gary Anderson and Oregon State have mutually agreed to part ways voiding a contract with over 12.5 million left on it.

He was my least favorite Badgers coach of my lifetime and I hated Brett Bielema. I'm not surprised at all he's out so soon, but there has to be more to this story. You don't agree to walk away from 12+ million if there isn't some ammo on the other side. University had to have something they threatened to go public with.

Could have been a lot of clauses attached to that $12M that would have taken a long legal battle to win. If he does that, no one will ever hire him as a coach again. Reduces the perceived financial risk of hiring him. Maybe he loves being a coach and wants to coach again somewhere.

If there is something that violates rules, Oregon State is obliged to report it or faces penalties. There were never any rumors of personal conduct issues, unlike Bielema.

Seems like an awfully big conclusion to leap to. The guy has a lot of money. Just because he didn't take all the money he could have on the way out doesn't mean that it was because the University was threatening him.

And actually after reading about it, it kinda sounds like he was frustrated with some of the same obstacles he ran into at Wisconsin.

He left Wisconsin because he knew he was on the way out and took the 1st major job offered to him. Oregon State is not a great job but is in a great conference. Sort of like Buzz taking the Va Tech job, which he though is turning around.

Anderson was frustrated with the academic standards and coaching salaries. I never though OSU being that tough of a school to get into as compared to UW.
