Blocked Talent

We've had some good success with acquiring blocked talent the past two years in Villar, Broxton and I'd categorize Shaw in there as well.

1B/OF

Another talent out there is Christian Walker(1B) from the Diamondbacks, blocked by Goldschmidt. 26 years old can play 1B and both Corner OF positions Slash line in AAA this year is 309/382/597 with a wRC+ of 147, 10.3% BB Rate, 17.6% K Rate so he's not a swing and miss guy and hit 32HR's and 61BB's in 514 AB's.

I know we have Jesus Aguilar, but Aguilar's stats in AAA in 2016 were 247/319/471, wRC+ of 125, 9.2% BB Rate, 19% K Rate. Jesus is only able to play 1B though and would provide more flexibility on defense.

2B/OF

Tony Kemp from the Astros

Blocked by Altuve. In AAA this year at 25 years old, 329/375/470 and a wRC+ of 121. He doesn't walk or strikeout much with K and BB rates below 8%. Played all the OF positions in 2017 and 2B in 2016.

Might be two guys on the 40 man bubble coming this winter that could help our club next year even though they haven't played in the majors yet that would cost lower level prospects in return.

-Jurickson Profar - UTL - TEX

-Johan Camargo/Rio Ruiz - INF/1B-3B - ATL

-Colin Moran - 1B/3B - HOU

-Clint Frazier? - OF - NYY (Judge, Gardner, Hicks, Ellsbury, Mateo)

*ATL has a ton of young pitching that is getting close to the MLB. Maybe not this year, but they may trade some pitching talent in the next couple of years.

Clint Frazier only needs to last one more year I believe and then Gardner is a free agent it could be two but that doesn't matter really. The Yankees want to get under the penalty so Frazier won't be traded as he is a pre-arbitration player unless they are getting some pre-arbitration players back to fill other spots.

I don't see the Braves trading any of their young pitching going forward.

Christian Walker makes a lot of sense for the Brewers. The guy seems to be a pretty good hitter possibly on the verge of a breakout if given the opportunity. He seems like a better fit than Aguilar because of his ability to play the outfield as well as first base. This would allow the Brewers a lot more flexibility when pinch hitting later in games if they needed to and covers them from injuries a bit better too. Seems to have played a little bit of third base too so it fills the emergency role that Aguilar had for that position as well.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Walker doesn't seem to play outfield much at all and his ceiling is probably what Aguilar did this year so would rather stick with the guy that actually proved it in the majors. I know Aguilar's stats from 2016 were mentioned but Walker had OPS of 763/748/757 his previous three years in AAA and then had his breakout in Reno this year. Not buying it.

Okay fine, he [sarcasm]stinks[/sarcasm]. Who else is being blocked that we can make a move on? :laughing

Right team and position, different player - Tyler White.

White's career minor league line is .301/.397/.500, and this past season he played over 100 innings at every position in the infield with 3B being the most often. Career minor league K rate of 15% and BB rate of 12%. wRC+ of 130 at AAA this past season.

Kemp's career minor league line is .310/.388/.419.

Tyler White seems like a more versatile version of Nathan Orf. I'd really like to see that guy get a crack as a September callup. It seems that if you don't have big time power or speed, it's easy to be overlooked in the minor leagues.

I love the idea of bringing Profar in. The guy is too talented to be such a bad player. And given the level of expectation(he was ranked among the Trout, Harper, Moore group, ranked #1 at one point) and the constant poor performances.

2012 he was expected to jump in and be a key cog for the Rangers. 2017, he's missed multiple years and has not performed well. And yet he's still just 24 years old.

Obviously the price is the issue here. If they leave him unprotected or are willing to give him away, he'd really be a guy I'd like to bring in.
