2017-09-19: Brewers (Anderson) at Pirates (Williams) 6:05 PM CDT [Brewers record 81st win, 1-0]

hawing
First two outs happened so fast I didn't even notice it was Swarzak instead of Hughes. With only 9 pitches you'd think he goes two, or at least until he gives up a hit. I wonder what the plan would be for the 8th otherwise, or if he'd needed like 19 pitches to get through the 7th. I would guess Hader would be off limits today to be ready to go 2 innings tomorrow and having pitched last night.

I think I'm adding things up right that the Brewers are 15-7 with Vogt as their starting catcher. Pretty solid...
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Hader should not be 'off limits.' This is a 1 run game in late September in a pennant race . Do whatever you need to to finish this with a W and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

Such a sweet swing for Braun there. Didn't try to do too much. DP ball to end it though, crap! Just can't string em together.

Yea probably too strong of a word to use 'off limits'. Maybe, preference not to use would have been better. Who knows, maybe it was Swarzak and Knebel sharing these two innings was the plan the whole time.

I get what you're saying. I'm sure ideally you'd like to save your best arms especially with the Cubs series up next . But at this point in the season any game in front of you that you can win you have to go for it.

IF you have it up you could add up the ERA pretty quick too. the guy just hit 385 last month. Clearly slumping now and I agree to play Pina more but the manager's not a moron for trying to get him kickstarted again with how well he was just doing, rather than just benching people after a few bad games. And again we have no knowledge if there's a reason they want to be limiting Pina now due to some nagging injury or something...

Way to go Swarzak, what a pickup he's been.

He's no Knebel, but the acquisition of Swarzak has been a huge one.

Yup, just a few months ago instead of bickering about the backup C it was bickering over who was the least bad option in the 7th and 8th innings and how big of a moron the manager was for whichever guy he chose. He's stabilized everything. Huge pickup for next to nothing.

Just one Badger Mutual Insurance Run would be huge. anyway to get one over

I have bagged on Stearns for his (lack of) a bullpento begin the year and I'll praise him for that acquisition. What a find. Hopefully he loves it in MKE and wants to continue with us on this trek to the top.

I'm not letting the Cubs ruin this effort from the Brewers for me. Not gonna let them. Come on Giants!

Might as well have been 3 Gilbert Lara's up for the Rays, Wade Davis just disposed of them like they were nothing.

It is absolutely unfathomable to me, that the Brewers have won(6/8..if they hold on tonight), and not only have they not gained a single game, they have actually LOST two games in the standings in that stretch. That really ticks me off. I mean if that has ever happened in baseball history, this late in a season, it can't be very often. You win 6-8 and LOSE two games in the standings. I'm still irritated that the Cubs have played basically nobody for about the last 6 weeks or so.

Even IF the crew wins again tomm night, and the Cubs lose, they are still 2.5 games back going into the Cubs series...that's not close enough..that means you have to win 3-4 to take the lead. 1 1/2 is a whole different game

There's why I absolutely hate the sac bunt in front of a guy who strikes out all the time .

I get it, I'm not saying it's just a horrible call, but when you've got a 30% K guy at the plate, man on 3rd 1 out can become man on 3rd 2 out really quickly.

Remember when TB scored I think only 3 runs vs us a few weeks ago in 3 games? Goes around comes around I guess. But yea very frustrating we've done everything we could reasonably expect since the cinncy sweep and it's not getting us there. Just keep winning, it's all you can do

Its worse when you have him go up there trying to squeeze bunt.

I think the Giants have Cueto going tonight. Hopefully he's on his game.
