Problem is you have to keep them down for 10 days. That would be a very unwise decision with no one really worthwhile in the minors. Even if you can do it September 1st...still way too many days to be out those guys. The Pirates burned their pen too, which helps.

adrian houser threw 4.2 on wednesday. jacob barnes threw 1.0 on thursday. i'd option burnes and recall houser to be the long guy, and use barnes sparingly with colorado springs.

I just don’t see the urgency to call someone else up. As long as Chacin can go six innings it is a non issue. Jeffress can pitch today, no reason he can’t. Albers, Jennings, Williams, and Soria also can definitely pitch pitch.

Even if Chacin only goes 5 it is hardly a huge issue. I’d rather just pitch my less than stellar pitchers for a few days vs. losing someone for a week plus. We still get two solid guys in Soria/Jeffress today.

Jeffress, Jennings, Albers, and T.Williams are all available for tonight as they pitched 1 inning or less yesterday (with an off day the day before). That seems plenty bullpen with your best starter on the mound. If Chacin were to leave early, as someone has said, Anderson or Guerra could come for relief. Then the other would pitch on Sunday. All of these off days make it a lot easier to juggle a bullpen.

Perez and Kratz didn’t pitch so they’re fresh. Although Kratz caught 15 innings so his old knees may be barking today.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

We need an efficient loogy. Jennings is not good or reliable. Grahaem Lloyd needs a call

I had someone else in mind...

Expect Barnes to be called up for the Thursday afternoon game in Cincinnati. Most other AAA options three multiple innings in the past couple days.

Correct, and Knebel hasn't been down 10 days so he's not eligible to return just yet. Williams figures to be swapped out again. They'll have Lyles, Jennings, Barnes, Soria, Albers and Burnes all able to go one inning today if needed.

Guerra is an easy call to go down. My guess is you see Williams and Guerra swapped out for Barnes and Jake Thompson this morning.

I think they need to free up another 40 man spot so they can add QTC and get him up when rosters expand. Sure would be nice to have another lefty in the pen to go with Jennings. Obviously, Hader is a LHP but he isn't used as a specialist. My recommendation would be DFA'ing Albers or Orf.

Albers is owed $2.5 mil next season, so won’t be DFA’d. It’s too bad QTC threw 2.1 innings last night. Otherwise he could have been added to the 40 and called up today.

They could also place Dubon on the MLB roster, then immediately on the 60-day DL to free up a spot. I know service time and all, but those spots are starting to get hard to come by.

I agree that Orf is probably on very, very thin ice.

Should have been done already = Add QTC - DFA Orf. They should have had QTC on the shuttle with Houser, etc by now. See if he can become the loogy that they want Jennings to be.

I think they would DFA Saladino/Lyles/Thompson/Hernandez before they DL Dubon.

Aaron Brooks and Jacob Barnes up, per McCalvy. Taylor Williams and Freddy Peralta to AAA. Needed to make room on the 40-man for Brooks. He's been pitching very well in AAA, though, so this call-up was warranted.

Edit: Ariel Hernandez DFA'd. He's got a great, great arm, but no command. Maybe they can sneak him through waivers and keep him in the org. Would like to hang onto that arm.

because the 2018 sky sox season has ended, the brewers can petition the commissioner's office to recall any player that was optioned less than 10 days ago.

if taylor williams were recalled today, he would not burn his 2018 option.

it appears that with the latest collective bargaining agreement, players optioned towards the end of august must wait the requisite 10 days before being eligible to be recalled--even with the minor league season having ended prior to those 10 days.

thus, taylor williams has burned his second option.

We really need to lock up Hader and Jeffress for years to come.

I LOVE the end of our pen with those 2!

Pitchers are always a risk but yeah if we can buy out a season or 2 of FA from Hader they should do it since he seems pretty durable so far. Plus for those of us, including myself, who think Hader should still move to the rotation it would give more time for that. Part of the problem of keeping Hader in the bullpen and then moving him to the rotation is you eat up his cheap years building up his innings again and by the time he hits his stride as a starter he is in arbitration. But I am coming around to accepting he may never be a starter.

As for Jeffress of course, the Brewers and Jeffress are a marriage made in heaven for whatever reason and we should reward him for his great season with an extension.
