Packer Game Day Thread [Packers 7-9]

CheezWizHed
McCarthy has a white board somewhere in his office that reads:

Offense without Rodgers

1. Get wr/rb moving behind the line of scrimmage

2. Get them the ball

3. ???

4. Touchdowns

Both hilarious and true. So predictable on both sides of the ball.

On another note, so sick of inconsistent pi/holding calls in the NFL, it's awful.

I understand we lead the League, maybe not anymore, in 1st possesion scoring. But I just feel the last 3 seasons, the playcalling for the offense is bad the first 20-25mins of game time. Then as you approach a 2min drill type offense it all just comes together. Next week, does that 2min drill type offense appear? Nope, 20-25mins of game time goes by before it happens again. It's Like McCarthy refuses to play the offense, as it works best in this league, until he has too. His short pass calling with the run game made it easy to stack the defense without fear of a deep ball and thus get the results Hundley and the offense produced.

I went to bed early in the 3rd quarter when the Packers gave the ball to Cobb 6 yards behind the line of scrimmage on 4th and 2 from midfield. 2 yards is hard enough for this team to muster, but why not make it 8?

Yep, that was a waive the white flag moment for me. Why go for it on 4th down and use THAT play?

Last night's game gave me a sense of relief that we decided to cut the cable cord earlier this year AND not purchase NFL sunday ticket to watch Packer games since I live out of market...with Rodgers basically done for the year this team is unwatchable - probably going to further cripple NFL TV ratings when one of their teams with a national following is a hot mess.

It was a Gold Package or Milwaukee game. It also was Monday night and they showed no signs of really even competing last night. I don't blame the fans for getting the heck out of there. I have said to my group of friends for awhile that Packers fans are spoiled. They boast about being such great fans and it is easy to do so when you are winning every season. Let's see what that looks like after another season like the one we are in right now.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Of course Hundley isn't great or anything, but you'd think with three All-Pro-level WRs and a decent RB that they should still have been able to muster a better offense than what they showed. If you have so little faith in your QB to throw a pass that everything you do throw is behind the line of scrimmage, than what's the point of playing that QB? I was starting to hope to see Callahan.

New England loses Brady for four games last year and they go 4-0. We're what, a 3-13 team without Rodgers? Isn't there a point that has to be on TT and MM and Capers? How bad does the team have to be before we actually wipe the slate clean?

When you've got one of the two best QBs in the NFL, that shouldn't make you a 10-6 decent playoff team, but a 13-3 SB contending team. All of this should be a wakeup call that the team really isn't very good.

I would argue that perhaps they aren't all-pro level receivers Not many receivers have left Favre/Rodgers through the years and made any impact at all.

The thing about this is when Brady doesn't play, whether that be last season or when Cassel took over, they still run their offense for the most part. I just do not understand what McCarthy is doing when we have to play our backup. Let the kid do his thing. Run and gun it. That's what he did well in college and when we've seen him play well in the pros. I mean what is the gameplan? Try to score 10-15 points and hope the other side of the ball resembles an NFL defense?

Ugh... that game was UUUUgly. The only redeeming factor was our defense didn't look half bad.

Are the standards that low that Joe Flacco makes our defense look "half bad?" He had a season high completion %age by a fair margin yesterday lol. Their offense is basically what the Gophers did @ Northwestern this past weekend.

I was at the game and had a good view of the entire field. I couldn't count the number of times Cobb was running free in the Raven secondary and Hundley never looked his way. He locked in on Adams all day long and Adams had a good day, but if he wasn't open, Hundley panicked. Hundley throws a nice ball and is athletic enough to avoid a rush but his instincts of when to run and when to throw it away just are lacking and he just doesn't see the field well enough to succeed.

The defense played hard all day. Flacco's completed a lot of passes that were short of the markers on third down. That's how you defend him.

Packer special teams were outplayed badly too. Crosby's one kickoff was fielded around the 15 and almost taken to the house. That set the tone for the 2nd half.

Given 5 TO and 2 failed 4th down attempts gave the Ravens incredible field position, giving up 23 points and getting off the field for several 3andOuts was pretty good. I could care less about the opposing QB's completion rating when he is throwing short most of the time.

Basically held them to 16 points. That last TD was a gimme.

It's funny to think that the Packers moved on from Matt Flynn to make Scott Tolzien the primary backup, only to move on from Tolzien a year later with Hundley as the no. 2 QB. You'd think that after getting caught with his pants down once in 2013, TT would have had the good sense to keep Flynn around.

Capers just needs to go. Same crap different game.

Hundley played well for the most part but him taking key sacks hurt badly. Once before the insane 57 yard FG and then the last drive of the game giving the ball back to Pit.

Who kicks that FG? A stone would be smarter than that. I can't stand these coaches anymore and it really makes it difficult for me to get any sense of enjoyment out of watching them play. Same goes for the drive after Bell's fumble. Come out and pass 3 times and punt. 0:13 off the clock. Doink.

I should be encouraged by Hundley's game tonight, but instead am sitting here stewing on the various clock management, playcalling, and coaching decisions this guy made....again.

I'm not stewing about it anymore, I'm in the last stage of grief- acceptance. TT and MM won a SB once 10 years ago, so they are golden. Rodgers was injured so they'll get yet another pass. I bet even Capers is back.

This might be a bit Debbie Downer. The Packers won a SB in the 2010 season. Since then they are 66-29-1(no including this season) have won five of six North division championships and been to the NFC championship game twice. I mean, I get it... we want to win Super Bowls but only one team does that each year and for whatever reason it is, the Patriots are the only franchise to have figured out that potion to some extent.

Well, we're now seeing why the Packers had that regular season record- Aaron Rodgers. Without him, TT and MM are exposed. I mean, TT already has been exposed on defense for years. Now we're seeing it on the other side of the ball.

MM was 100% responsible for losing to Seattle, not some backup TE that gets all the grief. Packers were in control, and MM throttled down. You could see everyone celebrating on the sidelines, they stopped playing. That's entirely on MM.

Finally, it should be extremely rare to lose a playoff game at home if you're a good coach. MM lost several. Honestly, any really good HS football coach could get the Packers to the playoffs every year with Rodgers at QB, and I'm not even kidding.

He gets the grief because he made a selfish play and failed to do a simple task. It is like when I play madden and instead of kneeling I chuck bombs and try to put up more points only to give up a pick-6 to tie the game up.
