Packer Game Day Thread [Packers 7-9]

CheezWizHed
Going to the game on Sunday, first one in a few years.

Anyone have any tips/ideas/suggestions for Lambeau & Surrounding areas?

They opened that new public area just west of the stadium. I doubt the sledding hill will be operational since it's gonna be like 87 degrees but might be worth checking out.

Titletown Brewing is open over there, of course it will be packed early but just throwing it out there. They've also re-done the buildings and tents in the parking lot on the other side of the stadium. Not sure what direction that even is, but over towards the Resch. Not sure what all goes on there, but when I was there for Family Night I saw tones of people standing in line for a free beef stick, refrigerator magent, or whatever trinkets each booth was giving out.

There were plenty of shirtless individuals out and about on Sunday at Lambeau :)

Stupid weather. It must suck to be a steelers fan right now, "we lost to this team?"

As a whole i dont mind the "color blast" uniforms, but i hate the all white. Especially being the home team.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

I didnt think my hate for the bears could go higher, but that hit was completely uncalled for on adams.

Not really. The ref should have blew the whistle 3-5 seconds before the hit as forward progress was stopped.

Unfortunately the bit came as Adams was going down. If he wouldn't have been going down that hit is fine. You are basically talking about a second here if the hit happens 1 sec earlier it doesn't look as bad.

Anyone even trying to partially rationalize that hit is just about as disturbing as that hit was. That was head hunting at its finest and I am glad Adams is moving all his limbs. Honestly thought I witnessed the last time someone would ever walk again. Watching it in slow mo was just tough.

Couldn't disagree more, honestly. Watching the replay, he comes in and doesn't even raise his arms to attempt a tackle, he tries to tackle him with the crown of his helmet. The hit was basically with the intention of hurting the guy.

And then he celebrated it.

I'll echo the disappointing game called by the refs. Glad the game was out of hand, but the 'tipped' punt call was horrendous and would have been a massive game-changer if it had been close.

It wasn't even intentional you can see he was going to make a play on the ball carrier. Unfortunately he hit him with his helmet and he wasn't celebrating. After the hit you can see his reaction and him pointing at the sideline and then at Adams for medical attention.

As Rodgers even said:

“He is one of the hardest hitting players in the NFL. ... I don’t think he was intentionally trying to hurt (Davante). But he did give him a good whack and unfortunately ‘Te got knocked out.”

Watch that replay again... he's waving at the referee who is running toward the play to try and convince him not to throw the flag. He makes no motion to the sideline or to Adams.

He didn't even raise his arms to try a tackle, he apparently thought he'd be able to tackle him with the crown of his helmet. Adams' progress was stopped, and he was in a vulnerable position. I think the NFL to see it this way as well, and I think a suspension will be levied.

It's exactly the type of hit the NFL is trying to eliminate.

When Packers cornerback Davon House saw the replay on a reporter's phone after the game, he said: "Oh god, that's disgusting. That's illegal. I didn't see it like that [before]. Oh my goodness. That's dirty. I didn't see it like that. Yeah, that's dirty. I don't think we have any guys like that that would do anything malicious like that, but that is a dirty hit."

Right guard Jahri Evans maybe had the clearest view on the field. Trevathan’s runway started behind him. He darted around Evans, toward the pile...In that respect, he could’ve went in without his head, without his helmet. But he saw a target, and I truly believe he hit what he wanted to hit.”

I'm usually pretty quick to defend players on hits near the sideline and to the head because the game is so fast, both players are moving and you don't always where the other guy will be and you can't always just stop that quickly. This was blatant headhunting IMO, Adams was sitting duck and he led with the crown of his helmet and went for Adams' head... it wasn't even close. And it wasn't just because it was a Packer, I'm pretty objective about this stuff and can ignore the uniform, I would be disappointed if this was a Packer, like I was with Charles Martin and Ken Stills..

Like I told my friends last night about a hit from previous in the game, all of these now so-called "dirty" hits are just circumstance. You go to tackle a guy at the thigh and the ball carrier lowers his shoulder, boom, flag for helmet to helmet hit. A receiver jumps for a ball and you go to tackle him in the mid section and the combination of the receiver returning to earth and him curling up to cradle the ball and, boom, flag for hit on a defenseless receiver. What's a defender suppose to do?

The Adams hit is somewhat in that category and it's being blown way out of proportion. Adams was falling toward Trevathan. When he lined up his tackle he was heading for the ribs but Adams was being tackled from the other side and therefore what started out as ribs ended up being facemask. His mouthguard flying out and all the Packers freaking out immediately just leads to an emotional reaction.

It's really not being blown out proportion.

He could not see what he was hitting. He was using the crown of his helmet as a weapon. That is a completely illegal hit and has no place in football. It is a hit of that type that is purely designed to injure another player (which it did).

I know McCarthy & Rodgers had a good game plan, as well as execution. But I was impressed by the work of the offensive line. Lane Taylor at LT? Seriously? McCray at RT? For Real? Lucas Patrick? Ah, no. But that rag tag group got it done. Only 2 sacks and no QB hits. Someone deserves credit.

And Trevathan is given a 2 game suspension. NFL agrees that he used his helmet as a weapon:

The league said that Trevathan violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 6 (i) which states that "there shall be no unnecessary roughness. This shall include, but will not be limited to: (i) using any part of a player's helmet or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily."

Even if his head was up, there was no reason to hit him like that. The play actually should've been whistled dead as progress was stopped. Putting your head down and only Adam's head to hit (being engulfed by other tacklers) only makes it worse.

The overturning of the 4th down stop on Elliott, which might be a bit overlooked because it didn't cost us the gsme fortunately, was beyond awful as well.

First of all, it didn't appear conclusive on the Elliot reach that he reached the 19 which is what he needed for the 1st.

Even excusing that, here's the more important part: A 'reach' like that for a spot is not the same damn thing as breaking the plane of the goalline. The runner has to maintain that spot or have his forward progress stopped by the opposition at that point. Elliot reaches out for a moment, and then on his own accord, presumably to avoid fumbling, pulls the ball back, thus giving up his right to that spot.

And yet even with the benefit of replay he is awarded the most favorable possible spot.

Absolutely inexplicable overturn and the officials should be embarrassed having apparently not understood the rule.
