2. BREWERS. If the Orioles are unable to sign Loewen, their first-round pick a year ago, his line of suitors will begin with the Brewers. Loewen's price tag has been rumored as high as $6 million, but Milwaukee needs power arms and there isn't a pitcher on the board with a higher upside than the 6-foot-6 lefthander. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash have Canadian roots and would like to add the highest-drafted Canadian ever, even if they have to wait out Loewen all summer. In the unlikely event that Loewen signs with Baltimore, the Brewers would consider Weeks or possibly righthander Tim Stauffer.

obviously this means they are predicting Young #1. I suppose the Brewers cannot even contact or workout Loewen until after next Tuesday.

about the Canadian ties. Without seeing the BA article, I would guess the top 5 go Young, Loewen, Weeks, Stauffer, and Harvey with Sleeth #6.

Loewen's price tag has been rumored as high as $6 million.

 

$6 million? Last year he wanted $4 mil and couldn't get it. Has he really improved his stock that much from last year to this year? In my opinion, he had a good but not great year. He should be thrilled to get the $4 mil he wanted from Baltimore.

 

I'm hoping this is just a PR rumor to see if he can drive up his price tag. Otherwise, I could see him falling in the draft.

 

Coughing up $6 mil for Loewen would have to mean leaving other important picks unsigned.
