2017-09-05: Brewers (Davies) at Reds (Stephenson) 6:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 9-3]

Glad we made sure to get Sogard's hot bat in the lineup.

Yea, so far nobody has come through tonight. They should have had a line up of just Davies and ghost runners.

Sogard smoked that ball earlier that Votto had to bat down. And his second hit was the hot shot right at 2B wasn't it that ended a DP? I think I'm right on both those but could be wrong, possibly mixing him and walker up. So he hit the ball hard each time, it's all you can ask

Yea shocking after the first coouple months that it turns out the O is the problem. WE all said at the time that the pitching would never hold up and that's why they really didn't have a shot. Don't think any of us would guess it would be the O holding them back.

I'm a little surprised how bad the offense has been this season. I didn't think this would be a below average offense, especially given the ballpark they play in. Early in the season people were concerned that our minor league system was so heavy on position players, but honestly it looks like we need a lot more help there than pitching. 1B, 2B, SS, C, CF, LF. I guess the offense needs to be rebuilt more than the pitching staff.

I don't know what the answer is. I don't know if you fire Coles, or what. I don't even know who you replace. Pina has been good. Shaw has been good.

They were a good offense for the first half and then they went into what everyone assumed was just a funk, yet that's exactly who they've been for 7 weeks now.

I mean on the plus side the pitching has been a complete surprise to me. Davies, sure, he's been about what I expected this year. Nelson and Anderson have been far above expectations. The bullpen has been a lot better than expected too, sure they had early struggles, but in the second half they've been outstanding.

Offensively it probably has a lot to do with the boom or bust approach, being one of the best homerun hitting teams along with the worst at striking out. When you struggle with putting the ball in play as much as this team does, you're going to struggle with stringing together hits. They also don't walk at all anymore, last year it was refreshing to see the approach at the plate (though they struggled in many other areas offensively and weren't successful) I thought it would lead to us having a much better overall approach at the plate in the years to come, but I guess not. It's back to 2013-2015 era free swinging out makers all day.

I mean I think many of us could see a huge collapse coming (as of now 8 games and about to be 9 lost to the Cubs in the standings) but I just didn't think it would be like this. How do you get shutdown by terrible pitchers over and over again, Bartolo, Homer Bailey, this guy tonight I've never heard of, and countless others? I don't know, but here we are again.

It would really be nice if this team could actually score runs without hitting home runs. I would love to see the percentages of how many runs we score via home run. We're probably #1.
