2017-09-05: Brewers (Davies) at Reds (Stephenson) 6:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 9-3]

hawing

Uhhh...Broxton has put up around an .800 OPS and has among the best range among CFs in baseball.

It's kind of hilarious that you would make the 'you do have to have competent people to play the other spots' argument when Broxton has been easily better than Villar this season.

Villar has literally been the best hitter for a month, they're trying to ride the hot hand and he's lefty vs a RHP. I don't get how this is so hard to grasp why they've been trying it. They knew the risk, they're not stupid. It was a gamble, they knew, it lost tonight.

...and he should be in the line-up, AT 2B!

And they don't have a lefty to play CF other than rookie who hasn't done well. There's clear logic to it, they just lost tonight. They'd gotten lucky so far but yea after this I bet they're gonna be a lot more gunshy.

It'll be fine. How many game threads have people complained when Villar is starting and then makes an out and you have to remind them how hot he's been. No one was screaming to get him out the lineup then. You're in a bang box park with a small OF. And your talks about to just put him elsewhere doesn't make up that there is no one competent offensively lefty hitter to play in CF. You do have competent people to play the other spots.

Just because they knew the risk doesn't mean it wasn't stupid.

We understand why they have been trying it, you don't need to keep explaining it and explaining why you can't understand why people can't grasp it, we grasp it. People have said repeatedly, just play him at his natural position, does Sogard really need the start?

You're underestimating the importance of defense. If your entire strategy to work a guy into the game is based on the premise of, 'hopefully nothing gets hit his way unless it's routine', that's a bad strategy. Should we try working him in at catcher too?

Can we change the name of these threads from "In Game Threads" to "Poster Pissing Match Threads"? We used to complain about the Brewers now we just argue with each other about stupid things.

I was just going to post something like this.

I get it. We're all frustrated. But I didn't join this board to read four or five pages worth of posts arguing back and forth about something that shouldn't be made so much of a big deal. At least let's all join together and continue to be angry with this impotent offense that was allegedly the strength of the team going into the season.

Broxton .704 vs RH starters. So there's that.

.704 really isn't a terrible platoon split.

If you really want a lefty bat in CF that bad, give Phillips a start.

I can't believe this much of an argument needs to be made to play an actual outfielder in center field.

I'm a little surprised how bad the offense has been this season. I didn't think this would be a below average offense, especially given the ballpark they play in. Early in the season people were concerned that our minor league system was so heavy on position players, but honestly it looks like we need a lot more help there than pitching. 1B, 2B, SS, C, CF, LF. I guess the offense needs to be rebuilt more than the pitching staff.

Yea I pretty rarely get into anything like that. But I make one comment that I get why they're taking the risk and everyone freaks out like this is the dumbest clearest mistake ever and attacks. It hasn't hurt them in any game yet. And each one attacking has been ignoring the LH hitter who can play CF aspect, that's it right there. It's just like when everyone freaks out on whichever reliever happens to blow it on a given day that Counsel is a moron for it. There's logic in it, they're not morons. And I'd bet and assume Villar has been working there daily during BP so they've been gaining confidence. And really, he did make the play as far as the route/etc went. He just dropped the ball, just like he could drop the ball playing anywhere.

Moving on, Davies just needs to keep dealing and if we can't score more than 4 runs you deserve to lose.

I agree, but a lot of these decisions aren't so black and white. It's like any 60/40 decision CC makes is the dumbest thing ever conceived.

I'm at the game tonight and I'll be here tomorrow and I'd really like something to cheer about.

I don't know what the answer is. I don't know if you fire Coles, or what. I don't even know who you replace. Pina has been good. Shaw has been good.

They were a good offense for the first half and then they went into what everyone assumed was just a funk, yet that's exactly who they've been for 7 weeks now.

I don't agree with the idea and hope they don't do it anymore. But I do agree with the last part, until the offense can actually figure something out, it doesn't really matter who is in center. That's the real problem right now and it's been going on too long.
